Exposure & Sun in back, and other Bug Reports [by Nicky Gi.]

Nicky Gi.,
I got your Bug Report :
Nicky Gi. wrote:1) I think at the start of this match where I started with the sun in front of me, the exposure was lower than intended. When I faced the sun again on game 3 the exposure increased. I have sun rotation off
2) Exposure goes up and down alone when sun not at the back. Is that normal?

The exposure is automatically calculated depending on the brightness of the current rendering. It's very complicated to tune it, especially on PlayStation, where the calculation is less accurate (I had to activate the night session much earlier as the auto-exposure was flickering too much in low-light conditions).

If you want to have the most stable lighting, you can set the time to "Default" ; in such a case, the sun doesn't move, and it's high, and use the static camera so the rendering almost never changes.

I'm fine with using the Default option. However, if I force the time of day in World Tour to Default from settings, there will never be a night session match unless I manually trigger it. Could we have an option that forces the time of day in World Tour to be “Default + Night Session” instead of having to choose one or the other?

This way, the game can automatically decide before each match whether it will be played in the default daytime setting or as a night session. That would save a lot of hassle because if we manually set a match to night session and later exit and return to it, the time of day resets back to Default, and we have to change it again.

Or give us an option where all times of day from 08:00 to 19:00 count as Default, and anything from 20:00 onward is treated as a Night Session. So if World Tour shows the match time as 14:00, 16:00, or even 19:00, it would still use the default setting. But if it shows 20:00 or later, it would automatically be a night session.

It's done for the next update. :)

EDIT:
if you play with the XKT Mod, you'll also have to wait for the XKT update.

I submitted a bug report after the latest update. “Default + Night Session” now behaves as Night Session only, and “Night Session” is actually giving daytime conditions. I also tested it without the XKT mod to confirm.

Additionally, “Default + Night Session” should not replace “Default.”

It should simply be an option that forces the time-of-day logic in World Tour, allowing the mode to decide whether each match is played at the Default time or at Night.

This shouldn’t be completely random either.
A reasonable distribution would be something like 70% daytime (Default) and 30% Night Session.

This should also take individual tournaments into account, because not all events use night sessions frequently. Some hardly ever schedule them. So it’s not as simple to implement as it initially seemed, it’s actually quite complex.

Maybe my other suggestion is the easier solution: treat all times before 19:00 as Default and anything after 19:00 as a Night Session. You could add a hidden setting to keep the sun static during day matches, ensuring all daytime matches are consistently handled as Default. Something along those lines.

Essentially, just treat all matches that are not night session as Default. A simple toggle like this in the hidden settings would work. This would not need for the mods to update anything.

World Tour would keep its current time-of-day rotation, but with one change: if a match is scheduled for 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00 or 18:00, it would use the Default time of day. Only matches starting at 19:00 or later would trigger a Night Session. Or if World Tour chooses Night Session.

I’m not sure anymore. What do you think? Maybe I’m starting to throw way too many complicated ideas? 😝

It's already working (in the World Tour). The only issue is the button labelling in the Training Club (and everywhere if you have the XKT Mod), which will be fixed in the next update.

The chance to get a night session, with or without this new option, is 20% or a bit more.

I won't do any more changes now, as you see, every time I forget to modify something and then it snowballs and I'm really tired of that... :fear:

When do you estimate the xkt update to arrive?

Thanks. As I mentioned, “Default + Night Session” should only appear in the World Tour settings under “Forced time of day of 3D match.” It shouldn’t exist in Training Club, there’s simply no reason for it to be there.

“Default” should return as its own option, and “Default + Night Session” should be separate. “Night Session” should remain as well.

Nicky Gi.,
your last Bug Report :
Nicky Gi. wrote:Crowd starts clapping and no applaud sound is playing. Is this an XKT Mod bug?

Yes ; I guess a crowd sound is either broken or incompatible on PlayStation.

Nicky Gi. wrote:Night Session exposure seems very bugged. Maybe this is a bug with XKT Mod.

This is unfortunately a very random Unity bug that is not fixable (it happened to me once in Unity Editor so I could check everything). Restarting the match or the game, or switching to the default lighting, fixes the issue.

I couldn't replay the match because it was desync'ing most of the time. Usually, in that situation, it means you were not correctly positioned (eg: the ball was actually too high to be hit).

Yes probably it was too high, but the player did not attempt to jump. However, I guess there is no jump animation for the smash, right?

Hum, it might be due to the white line getting covered in sand. I guess I could add an option to disable that, if it's better for you..?

Line getting covered with sand causes the exposure to increase on clay courts? That is a cool feature obviously so getting it removed is not ideal. This is unfixable without removing sand from the lines?

If it’s not possible to fix it without removing this feature, adding an option in Hidden Settings to do it ourselves if we want to would be better.
