manutoo, just a little idea reading that xbox sales are not at their best, every weekend there are free game days on xbox, with your contacts it would not be possible to do it? it would allow people to try the game for at least 4 days

mvkmatt4457,
maybe I'll try that once I'm done with the new movement animations, but I doubt it's interesting for small games ; ie: if Microsoft doesn't do ads for the free week end, no one will know about it. :fear:

he's just communicating about the event I'm thinking that would make a bit of publicity! I'm more afraid that he'll ask for money maybe...

In any case thank you for all these hours of work, for this phenomenal game and for the new animations!

Hi Manu, I'm sorry about your son, I hope he gets better soon.

I'm very happy that you released v1.0 of TE4 :) but then I was disappointed that the Linux version is not available :(
I know that you release it after a certain amount of time, but I hoped that with v1.0 it would be different for once. Patience, I'll wait, I hope not too long.

Hey Manu,

Great news about the 1.0, you must be relieved, even if the work is not quite finished. Do you plan to integrate hawkeye into the game soon? It is very well integrated into the other independant tennis game ( ), it brings a nice little extra something to the game.

Congrats for TE4!

Congratulations and thank you for all of your effort you put in this game and selling it for a very reasonable price. If you will do a new game at any time either TEM or TE this will be a instant buy again! I hope you will do tennis games for a very long time. All the best to you and your family!

One question Manuto, are the sliding animations removed from the game with the new animation system ?

Actarus69,
there's no point in releasing a Linux version before being sure there's no annoying bug in the current version.

Comatorium182,
I won't add the Hawkeye.

cj1984,
it's unlikely I'll do a new TEM or TE (however I plan on improving TE4 for a few years but not full time), but the future is never sure... :blackeye:

Robertoleal_,
no, they still work exactly the same.

Game is running very well on a Steam Deck. There is indeed no point in having a dedicated Linux version. Congrats on version 1.0. The game felt like it had version 1.0 for a long time anyway.

Ok, I know this, but I hope it doesn't take too long, I would also like to take advantage of the new features of v1.0, and I would also like to give opinions on this new version like Windows and Mac users.

I totally disagree, I don't have the Steam Deck and I'm not interested in buying it, like maybe others. So the Linux version must be there.

I am just saying that if it runs well on Steam Deck, it should run well on any Linux machine with little manual work. You have to think about the amount of work it takes to create a release for another platform. After all the game is a one man show and we can only ask for so much from him.

Which animations are you planning to improve via the the motion capture system? From your recent post, it seems movement and sidesteps/small steps will be priority. Are you planning on improving the dynamic forehand/backhand especially at outstretched position(basically the squash shot) and forward sliding?

Also, I have a few suggestions which can enhance the animations even further:
1. Different forehand/backhand styles for the same player for let's say different shot power or spin. Let's say forhand animation on late positioning and ultimately less shot power will have different animation than that for the one with higher power.(The burden for this will ultimately fall on the modders. You can keep the same in the base game)
2. Moddable smash/drop/lob shot(This will give different feel for different players in the mods)

That would be great, or at least having the option to chose one animation for example top spin and lobs, another for normal and short strikes, and the acceleration shot, and then the slice/drop shot animation be different, and smash idk if the real life players do that much of a different motion there, but still would be great! at least variety in shot selection from the baseline

Side steps/small steps are very important in tennis and I think it's perfect that they are a priority in the new animations.
I would also like to suggest if possible to add a SPLIT STEP before reacting to the move or shot it would improve a lot, I understand that this can be a difficult detail.

I agree that the extended shots in the drive and backhand should be improved.

I don't know about Steam Deck, I've only heard of it, I don't know if it's Linux based.

As for Manutoo, I know how much work he does, and all by himself. I feel only admiration and gratitude for him, and I've told him so on more than one occasion :)
Thanks to him, I can play my favorite sport on Linux, and I've been doing it since 2013 with TE2013, and since 2023 with TE4. Sure, I could use proton with wine, but I prefer native Linux games, otherwise I would install Windows. And thanks to Manutoo, I don't have to do that :D

That said, I just expressed my disappointment, and I think it was also the first time. I know that Manu updates the Linux version when he is sure that there are no bugs. However, for v1.0, I would have liked to have it immediately available for my OS, so that I could also try the new features, but also be able to participate in the forum and have my say on these new features, or even report any bugs. Instead, I won't be able to do it, and I feel like I've been cut off :(
I know that's not the case, but I feel this way, at least this time.

Patience. As said, I hope I don't have to wait too long for the update.
