Tennis Elbow 2009 released !

General discussions about the 3rd edition of Tennis Elbow

Postby Norberto » 07 Nov 2008, 15:15

Hello comunity!

Just my opinions:

0. TE2009 is a lot more realistic than old versions (which makes me a lot more happy as well  !

1. Top spin: It is probably the most important strike to handle in clay court matches. I have heard from Nadal to get 4 meters high rebounces are not unusual in his clay matches!

2. Volleys: Yes, it is a lot harder to volley in TE2009, but I am agree that it is a lot more realistic (perhaps volley is the most difficult basic strike to learn in real tennis!). In the same way, in TE2009 is not so hard to make a succesful lob or passing shot than previous versions, where service&volleyers were too hard to win (unrealistically) in my opinion.

3. Two question to Manu:

Some times (not always) when I fail a strike, a red image with a player inside appears at the left bottom corner, and when I throw a ball out, a green image with the player and the number '1' typed appears....what does it mean exactly these spots?

4. When I choose and confirm my doubles partner at the first tournament of the tour, game often crashes, is this bug detected/fixed in last updates? (I downloaded the game last weekend)

Thks in advance,
Norberto

Hello Norberto,

0- Thanks ;)

1- I guess it's 4m before the rebound, coz if after, then he'd lob his opponents standing after the baseline..!

2- yup, I'm pretty happy with the re-balancing I've done for the volleys... The "too strong volleyers" complaint was one of the most frequent complaint I got for previous versions of TE

3- I guess the number "1" is actually the motion blurred ball, right ? If not, then it's a bug, this "1" shouldn't be displayed... :?
Else I just updated the doc about this icon :
https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... tml#center

4- No, I'm not aware of this bug... :?
Could u try to dl the latest version & install it ?
If the bug still happens, can u describe more precisely what u're doing ? u just select the Germany F1 in doubles while playing with men, and get the double partner selection screen, pick one, click ok, and the game crashes at this moment ..?

couple of questions about te 2009 - is there anywhere which tells us what the effects of the different play styles are (such as defender/vollyer/all the new ones?) or can you explain the differences as im not sure how some of them will vary? (power baseliner/ puncher or defender/counterer)

secondly, i dont know about anyone else, but it seems to me a little counter-intuitive that pressing down (away) from the net would play a topspin, and going towards it a drop shot?

Hello menot,

1- https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... html#style

2- I used the "plane pilot spirit" to create the controls : push forward => going down ; pull backward => going up. It was also the default setting in FPS games, long time ago...

Try to see it this other way, if it can help u:
- when u prepare a topspin strike, u must put the head of ur racket very down
- when u prepare a dropshot, u must put the head of ur racket up... :)

thanks for the link to the documentation.. very helpful.

just noticed a bug and don't know if youve had this already, but having just won the first round of qualifying in spain in week 2, and looking at the qualifying draw - all players other than myself are listed as a ranking of 485

I guess u started a game in 1990. In this year, a lot of players just start their career, and thus have 0 ranking points. So they all have the same ranking for a while.

started in 2008. i looked in further and there are quite a few players on that same ranking - its just that the entire bottom half of the draw, and most of the top half, were these players I think (I havnt checked every name though)

perhaps I just didn't notice that before the first match

Humm, ok, so have a look at the rankings, you 'll see a lot of low ranked players share the same rankings, although it's a big coincidence to have so much players with same ranking at once in the same tournament, I think... :?

Hello Manu:

The more I play, the more I like this fantastic game!.

1. I downloaded 5th november update and doubles partner crash is gone!. Thanks Manu!. Now CPU players make double faults as well, great add! but, for me is veeeeery hard to make aces to CPU any tip to help me Manu? (I am currently serving close to 200 km/h at junior level, and just one ace every one or two matches, ist it normal?)

2. Year Statistics Screen: I am finishing my first career' year in the tour mode and all year statistics values remains zero :( (I have played more than 20 tournaments)...is this any bug?

3. Tour: You have to play at least 18 tournaments (may be 60-100 matches!) every ATP year. This means about 20 playing hours or more (averaged 15 mins/1 set-match in my case), just to simulate one year in the tour (at least for me is a lot of time to play  !). Is any way to leave CPU simulating briefly some matches with my player, just reporting me the match ending score?

4. Sweet spot: Thanks for off center icons explanation 8-) . I have tested for a time and I am noticed that if my player is right hand and hitting a accel forehand, must be placed a bit at the left of the green area to get a good sweep spot, and if hitting a accel backhand, he must stay a bit at the right (if my player is exactly in the axix center of the green area, often fails or hits poorly). So, my feeling is that helping colourful area is showing where the ball is coming, but the player body must be placed at the side of the incoming ball, isn't  ?

5. Stamina: It makes max accel / point, it simulates anaerobic endurance, ok!. One idea for future realeases  :

What about tiredness affecting the player during a match (aerobic endurance)?, and any skill simulating whole year tiredness due to play many (or too many) matches (recovery capacity), without break weeks (taking place injury risks as well).

6. Jumping at the net skill (depending on your style and speed?)/ Net presence skill (profitable with training): I confuse what is exactly measuring each one. Could you help me?

Thks in advance and sorry for the large text

Hello Norberto,

1- u have to serve on the line to do aces ; using slice may help as well

2- only results in main tournaments (ie: only ATP level, not ITF level) count for the yearly stats

3- there's no easy way to do that right now... Maybe look the doc for cheatcodes if u want to pass some matches...

4- there are 2 green zones, on both sides of the Danger Zone, so yup, standing in the middle is not a great idea, especially when doing the hardest shots... ;)

5- There won't be injury or long term fatigue in TE2009 (the need for training should be enough to motivate players to not play every week).
About fatigue over the match, it's a delicate matter, coz actually most players don't get noticeably tired before the 5th set in real life, and the consequences of tiredness (run less fast, hit less strong) aren't really fun to play with...
The only real interest is that right now, u can't play in a way to make ur opponent tired, so it's a little lack...

6- Net presence is not only about Jump Speed, it's more about ur player global easiness when he's at the net...
