Different delays in practice mode

Postby MaxiReturns » 26 Jan 2023, 18:57

Hello Manu,

is it possible to add different delays into offline training? Sometimes in online games, players have to play against others which live very far away like in Argentinia or Australia. During these matches we have mostly around 350 ping. In fact, this has a very big impact on the game compared to play people who live close to each other. Players from Europe rarely play under these conditions (you need to adjust aiming and return in a match with delay above 200+ very much). I think some other people would agree with me here that these people have a big advantage because they are way more used to play under this hard conditions (less problem for them). Its so often frustrating that every ball goes out which would normally be inside the court with smaller delay under 167.
So, can you add the possibility to change the delay in offline mode to practice for these different conditions?

Regards,
Maxi

Hello,

your aiming should not depend on the Delay if you play correctly ; read here : topic8-33114.php .

Sorry, but its hard for me to believe that. I played over 1000 online matches in TE4 (in practice mode mostly between inc 5-10), so i think i can say that I have also a bit experience. Ofc, i dont release the button before the ball hits the racket. I press it until I have shot the ball. The timing how long u have to press the button into one side to aim to the line is very different from delay to delay.

Are you sure that you never release before the strike left/right in addition to the strike button..?

Because if you don't, then the timing should be identical whatever the delay is. (else it's bugged somewhere :fear: )

Yeah, he is right. During online matches with delay from around 183-200 its hard with aiming. It takes long time to adjust and in tournamnet match its sometimes after match after you adjust to play with high delay. Mostly the ball is out which in previous match vs player with ping for example 150 i hit in. Add offline practice with other delays if its possible or fix it if its bug as you wrote could help very much to play online games

Agreed with you two, same happens to me whenever I play someone with high ping, you have to be way more light on the direction otherwise it goes out confortably.

Everybody,
not only you should not release left/right before the ball impact, but you shouldn't release & repress left/right during the preparation.

If you don't do that either, you can send me a Bug Report right after a strike where you felt the sensitivity was significantly above normal and I'll check it. (HowTo => topic5-31732.php )

Extra note : it shouldn't have had turtles on that point, as it perturbs the aiming.

So i should do a bug report on every shot in a 150+ delay match? I dont see any sence in this, bc if i aim every shot like in a 83 delay match, every ball will go miles out...

MaxiReturns,
only 1 Bug Report on a strike whose sensibility was clearly way too high would suffice.

Poland already did and here is my answer :
manutoo wrote:I checked what happened and you indeed didn't release the direction before hitting the ball, so I looked the calculation and the ball would have landed exactly in the same spot offline or online with any delay.

MaxiReturns,
in answer to your Bug Report sent on February 2nd, against Mahmut, whose description was "miles out again", at 1/1 after a return ending out : you started to press left, then released left for 0.083s ( = 5 frames at 60 fps) and then pressed left again, thus your aiming was incorrect.

In addition, you actually ending aiming a tad before the left line, but the imprecision of the acceleration made the ball land way out as you noticed.

You should activate Settings -> 3D match -> Show Info on Error, it'd help you understand what's going on.

Sorry for the delay to look into that, but I got a busy week. (in a busy month, in a busy year, in a busy decade :blackeye: )

Side note : if you want I answer your other Bug Reports, either create a corresponding topic in the Forum when you do them, or put your email as well in the Bug Report so I could answer you directly. :)
