JaNeZoKu,
it's more of a Modding request and I won't take these before a while... :fear:

have one that is relatively easy to implement.

exit confirmation dialog. pretty annoying to leave the game when spamming Esc to get out of a menu/game/whatever and clicking it one too many or a simple Esc misclick. same goes with misclicks on the title bar exit button.

another small suggestion I have relates to the question I asked you about force updating the build in game. it's not intuitive at all that it can be done in the Misc settings menu since the "Check for a new version" text looks like a label (and it is) for the setting itself instead of a button that also serves the update purpose. perhaps a note underneath pointing to the fact that it will look for updates upon click would do it.

Hi Manu.

I have a few gameplay things I've been noting as I play the alpha that I thought I'd post. Of course they aren't very urgent but I thought they might helpful to think about when working on the gameplay and visuals more down the line.

Gameplay
!) It would be nice if there was some way for players to better adapt to different surfaces, especially in the amount of spin they use. I could see this working well with a skill, maybe that can have one or two stars in it. If a player has this skill their spin will automatically adjust for different surfaces. This would better simulate players like Nadal and Thiem who flatten their strokes out a lot on hard and grass courts.

2) I know you have already tweaked this a bit (and I think this is probably pretty subjective), but it still feels to me like slices are overpowered, especially with the slice mastery skill. When playing with 2 points in slice mastery, the trajectory is incredibly low on every slice, and often the shot has an unrealistic amount of pace. Perhaps rather than make the shot stay so low or give it more pace, the slice mastery skill could make it stay consistency deep and give it more spin? I feel like that may more so be the strengths of players who do actually have the best slices.

In-match Visuals
3) Have you considered increasing the left/right adjustment of the camera view editor? It would nice to be able to set a court-side view to watch point replays with, but the side-to-side slider doesn't go very far at the moment.

4) One small thing that I've noticed is that though different people in the crowd start clapping at slightly different times, they all stop clapping at the exact same moment. Maybe you could adjust this so that there is a little more variance in when they stop clapping so it doesn't look so abrupt.

5) One thing that looks a bit odd is that the players head always follows the ball, which usually makes sense, but looks weird at times. For instance, pros don't usually track the ball when returning serve and the serve goes out. Once it passes them they are looking forward getting ready for the second serve. This also looks on in doubles when the player at the next is staring at their partner who is about to serve, when they should be looking towards the player who will return the ball.

Menus
6) Finally, I think it would be nice to have back buttons on each screen when setting up a new World Tour game. At the moment when you select a player you can't go back to the full list of existing players, which is frustrating because its very easy to click on the wrong one.

I don't mean to be overly critical with all these thoughts, I just been playing the alpha a lot and have noticed some of these over time. The game is coming along so well, and you should be proud of the incredible product you are making! I know you get many comments of people asking about release date and when the game comes to console, but I am just amazed that you are making as much progress as you are working on it all by yourself. And unlike most developers, you are very responsive to the game's community, which is what makes Tennis Elbow such a great experience. Keep up the good work--we are excited to see what's in store for TE4 in the future!

JoaoPereira,
use the right-mouse button to go back in menus. Title bar exit button already opens a confirmation pop-up.

Andynator7
Thanks for your feedback.

1) This could be a talent ; AFAIK, Nadal & Thiem are big exceptions, right ?

2) You're right about the slice, I already planned to do such kind of thing..!

6) Unfortunately, the game is initialized between most new-game screens so it's not possible to go back without doing deep core changes... :fear:

I meant the Windows frame exit button in windowed mode. either way, any exit scenario warrants a confirmation dialog. perhaps with a "Don't ask again" tickbox setting for those uninterested in the confirmation process.

Taking a cue on what Andynator7 said on slice, I tool fee the default slice shot should be less powered so that it floats more. Regarding the slice mastery talent, I would recommend to split it into two different slice talents, the first one, the retro style slice, keeping it low, used mainly by the net rushers while approaching the net to make the opponent hit up to give a easy high volley. The second one, the modern way of slice, keeping it deep with a lot of back spin, to prevent the opponent to making a attacking shot or just to change the tempo of the rally.

It will be possible to play an offline tournament from Training mode? I mean, without having to play on world tour mode, just be able to play indivual tournaments whenever you want...
I really miss this option in TE 2013...

Keep it up Manu, I have been playing TE 2013 for more than 3 years almost everyday and I´m still enjoying it like the first day :top: :top:

yes, Single Tournament mode is planned.
And I'm glad to know you enjoy TE2013 so much, I hope it'll be the same for TE4..!

I was wondering...

It would be nice to add different anims for different kind of strokes. For instance If you watch Nadal and Federer anims forehand, they have different types of "strokes anims" depending if they hit the ball with topspin or if they used a flat one. The true is that the way of they hit the ball is drastically different depending on it...
If these kind of "upgrade" it´s possible it would mean a huge realism gameplay improvement, and it would be a new dimension plenty of opportunities for the modder community of TE.

Hmm...If we talk about Federer there are no deep differences between his flat and his topspin movement....

But thats not the case if we take a look on Rafa...and it´s the same with many other players...
In any case, It´s not only about a flat or a topspin hit, sometimes if the bounce of the ball is very high or very low, the player will hit the ball with a quite different anim / movement ... my point is that, in my humble opinion it will be great to add more predefined strike anims for each strike...to have not only one predefined anim for forehand ( or other strikes ) if not more....

I can imagine that this suggestion could be impossible to implement...but maybe could be something "to keep open " for the modders :-?

I have some ideas, which could make te4 even better and more interesting (in my opinion its by far the best tennis game although its currently an aplha version):

1) Maybe there should be a new talent for players like wawrikna or thiem which is called for example "bazuka backhand". I think it would be nice that if u have this talent, its easier to shoot unreachable and very fast backhands down the line.

2) Another new "quality of life" feature would be to syn the character sheet from training with the world tour characters

Playing the TE2 demo I detected two things to improve in the gameplay:

- The control of low balls. Every time a player has to hit a low ball he either sends it to the net or leaves a very soft ball for the opponent. It gives the feeling that the player is always forced to reach them. More control would improve the mid-court game.

- The game currently favors aggressive players. Currently to make a break the best opportunity is to return a second serve with a powerful shot. You can rarely do damage by returning with top spin. However, as long as you get to the ball in time, it is always better to choose a powerful shot than another type of shot. Nowadays, players like Bautista, Nadal (in his beginnings), Djokovic, or Medvedev play quite defensively with good results. In tennis elbow 2013 you could imitate that style of play, but now if you try you are dead.

Hey everyone! Firstly I'd like to thank every single person that has made / makes this the best game ever for this sport. Here's an idea I had for quite some time now.

Could it be possible to implement in the game the possibility to "assign" to a player more animations for the same shot? Like two versions of a fh, and the A.I. randomly choosing one or the other from time to time. For example, as there are multiple anims for the Federer BH, adding them all together to make it more realistic, I think it would definetely be an improvement.

I know that some anims have che "normal" shot and the acceleration, but still... And the best thing would be even to assign a particular shot depending on the situation, like for example a slice on the stretch only when the player is running towards the ball. But I imagine this one to be even harder to make than the previous suggestion.

I don't know if this hasn't been done because it's hard to do or simply because no one ever thought of it, I'll just leave it here  .

Hi,
One suggestion; It would be great if there is a possibility to adjust game-style especially topspin, during a match, according to the surface or the opponent. Currently, once you set a certain topspin percentage, you have to stick with it for the entire tournament. In real life players can and do, vary it according to the opponent or how the match is unfolding. If this can be implemented it would be great and make the game more realistic.
Thanks and kind regards,
Fouad
