Hello,

now that TEM2 is in Beta state and mostly done, it'd be better if you could play it to test all the new things before suggesting anything for TE4.

Read here for more details about what's already done in TEM2 : topic15-30485.php . There's a free demo for it like for TE2013.

However, if you don't have the time to try TEM2, your feedback and wishes from TE2013 are still welcome here, of course !

EDIT April 2020 :
At this point, it's highly recommended to have played TE4 at least a few hours before doing any suggestion, as there are already a lot of deep core changes, so making suggestions from your TE2013 experience will make little sense with the current TE4 state.

Important Note :
This is not a feedback topic for TE4. ie: do not post stuff about tuning little things or talking about aspects of features already implemented in TE4. If it's about a change from the latest version then post in the "TE4 Comments" topic instead, else just create your own new topic, it'll be fine.
I'll move your post into the current TE4 feedback topic if it belongs there, or even in its own topic. The idea of the suggestion topic is to be as short & clear as possible, so I can re-read it when the need arises ; ie: it's not for discussions (although I often try to comment your suggestions so you get an idea if they are possible to implement or not ).
In other words, do not post here about tuning, balance, modifications of existing stuff or bugs.

Hi Manutoo.

Absolutely love this game. I'm doing a career with Maxou's patch at the moment. Some suggestions I have for TE4 are below from most to least desired:

For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE nerf the slice in this game. I cannot tell you how many points I've lost where I had the advantage and suddenly, my opponent hits an aggressive slice winner on the run out of nowhere that seems almost as fast as my acceleration shots (!!!). You should do something like a poster suggested on the original thread and have two different slices: one offensive (faster and lower but more prone to errors) and one defensive (slower and floatier but slightly less likely to make an error)

Please add lunging animations to better represent what happens in real life. Maybe you could program it so that "if player is X feet away from the ball, then they'll do a lunging animation to attempt to keep the ball in play" (see Virtua Tennis as an example). As it stands, the players doing a regular swing animation while the legs are moving sideways just looks kind of goofy and doesn't give the extra range that lunging at the ball would.

Make the drop shot more effective. There are times when I'll hit an angled acceleration shot to one corner then hit a drop shot to the other corner and the AI STILL gets there. Makes the drop shot seem almost not worth using at all.

Add a 3-D version of the real-life tournament courts if possible. Seeing the same courts over and over again during the career mode tends to get stale, which is partially why I am using Maxou's patch over the base game (he has all major 3-D courts in his build, I believe).

This game is already fantastic, and I think even one or two of my above suggestions would make it close to perfect in my opinion. Keep up the awesome work!

2) Lunging on the baseline is extremely rare. But I'll try to add a sliding-splitting animation.

NO! It's a very bad idea and it has nothing to do with reality, and Virtua Tennis is a perfect example of how embarrassing a tennis game can look like, where every second bounce the player jumps to the ball.

@noname1988 Okay...we must be watching two completely different versions of tennis then. Because in the version I watch, there are many bruising, physical rallies that REGULARLY require players to lunge at a ball to keep it in play while on the defensive. I’m not saying they should lunge ALL the time. If Manutoo decides to implement this, I trust him to make them lunge under reasonable circumstances.

How do they get to the ball in your version of tennis? Throw the racket? Extend their magical arms Space-Jam style?

at 1st, I thought like you because when I hear Virtua Tennis I instantly see tennis players constantly jumping & falling & getting up, but actually lunging means this :


so it doesn't involve falling, and I checked a Virtua Tennis video and it does that pretty well :

I think it should be possible, but I'll have to check more to be sure there's no issue.

I hope there would also be real-time injury system for single/offline mode, and I think that's what missing in TE2013. I hope it could be implemented though, just to give a sense of realism.
