[TE4] New Physics & AI Test + Gameplay Preview !

Hello,

you can now test the new ball, court, strike & player physics of TE4, as it's all implemented in TEM2 !

Players physics may change a bit, but the rest is very close to the final results, except for tuning, of course.

The AI is also greatly improved, but more will be done. (and I only tuned the Pro-10 difficulty, and not for the gameplay but for the realism)

You can also get an early preview of the gameplay, although of course it might still change and get new features before the final release, as I still didn't implement any of the new stuff I planned for it.

Be careful though : after a couple of hours of play, you may have trouble to come back to the old TE2013... ':D

I liked the new physics very much, Manu, much more unpredictable. However, I noticed the human player is very slow. Is that something you still have to tweak or do you intend to leave it like that?

thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it ! :)

And yes, the acceleration of the run when controlling the player is one of my concern for the gameplay. Like this, it's well tuned for the CPU, but it can accelerate in any direction, while the user can accelerate only in 8 directions. I'll test using an analog stick and if I like the result, I'll look for some tricks to help the keyboard & the D-pad users.

But when running straight to left/right, I think it won't change, as it's very realistic as it is now. However, I could possibly add an optional little acceleration boost at the start of the run, though, as a helper, to get a feeling closer to TE2013.

Hi manutoo

i have tried it out and i think it is way better than te2013, but the ball seems a bit too "floaty" if you get what i mean. the ball is too smooth and for some reason it's white. but overall very good. i found vollying way easier than te2013

Hey Manu

I noticed you can´t change the animations to the ones you have available when using the new gameplay from TE2.. can you maybe fix that? ( i mean in player edit mode)

I would like to show off the new gameplay for you and promote you a little.. if you allow that of course.. but i also enjoy the anims created by the others more than the one i can use in this demo version.

Sorry if it's too much to ask.

I'm not sure what you mean by "floaty". Do you think the ball is a bit too slow ?

And the ball is currently grey/white on MacOs. It'll be fixed once I'll have ported the game to the Unity engine.

I'll remove this limitation in the next update. (it might come back when the final version will be released :blackeye: )

try to raise the player skills, CPU level, and their topspin (by default, it's 0% and it might often force them to play slowly).

Thanks man!

Plays like a different game even though it looks the same. It's much more realistic and is it me or has the winner speed gone up ? The speed itself may not have changed but the feel of the speed has, right?

It probably needs some tweaking here and there but this is definitely better

Ethanovic,
yes, the maximal shoulder height acceleration speed went up from 162km/h in TE2013 to 180+km/h in TEM2.
For the acceleration, it went up from 150km/h to 160km/h with 0% topspin, and from 130km/h to 150km/h with 100% topspin.
Plus the player running acceleration has been lowered a lot, making harder to reach such fast balls. And lastly, the ball decelerates less at low speed (but a bit more at high speed), which is more realistic and gives less time to reach the ball after the bounce.

And I'm glad to know you enjoy the new stuff ! :yes:

I worked only with the Pro-10 level to make it as realistic as possible for the CPU vs CPU matches.
Once I'll be working on TE4, I'll check all the CPU levels and if the Pro-10 is really too weak against a human, I'll buff up the Master & Incredible levels..! ;)
But I guess the controls are a bit harder, so all in all it shouldn't be that much easier, right ?

So the rallies will be shorter on TE4 right? BEcause on youtube you can see rallies going beyond 100+ shots between good players...
