What's wrong? [Game is too hard ?]

Postby yellow » 03 Sep 2012, 03:04

I bought this game so i could try it properly, since i didn't have much time with the trial. I played some offline and online matches and i find it just horrible. Everyone's bombing aces on the line on 1st and 2nd serve like there's no tomorrow, and it's impossible to catch the ball even when you guess the trajectory, it just flies at the speed of light. And the control scheme its mind boggling. I have top spin 4 for xbox and, without offending the developer, and even though both games can not be compared, it just obliterates this game. It's just so much more fun in every way, not that difficult to play but it has pretty good depth, learning curve and adaptation.
I since gave up on this game, but when i go to youtube and watch some videos it's another story entirely. The ball doesn't travel at light speed and players can even wrong foot, start running in the opposite direction and hit a winner. So i ask - what's wrong? Is it my computer? Do i need to tweak anything in the settings?

First of all, try to increase your player's power if you haven't yet... Then, turn your previews on, so that you will know where the ball will go... If you're complaining on the game itself, sorry, nothing the developer can do...

PS: I just agree this game should have a tuto, like every normal game does...

I just play with a player from world tour. And why should i increase the players power? It's all about power?

I'll turn on previews and try it.

There's just something wrong. I see those videos of people playing in max difficulty and easily defending a good hit from the cpu.

yellow,
TS4 is almost a pickup'n play game ; TE2011 is a simulation. The former is easier & faster to get in, the later requires more time to get good at. So it's normal you get a hard time when you play online if you didn't spend a few hours training against a CPU with a decent level (ie: you should beat the Junior-10 before to put a foot in an online match ;) ).

About the matches against the CPU : start at a low level, take your time, there's no rush..! :)
Play a bit in warmup to get the hang on the controls, then do a few training club matches till you can beat the default CPU player a few times (its start level = Beginner-10). Be sure to use the Danger Zone & Aiming preview at 1st, but turn off the Aiming Preview when you start to get used to the timing needed to aim left/right from near the baseline, from far from the baseline, & from the net (they're all quite different).
Once you're very good at the game (or if you like high difficulty), you can turn off the Danger Zone preview ; it is recommended to keep the ball bounce preview though, as it can be hard to guess the ball trajectory on a monitor (ie: no stereoscopic vision like in real).

Then you'll be ready to read advices to avoid to be aced too much => topic8-6180.php .
Against the CPU, just step a bit more back, that should be enough in lower difficulty levels.

And don't hesitate to read the doc, it contains a lot of useful information about how to play & what-not : https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... e.html#how .

If you want to play right away in the World Tour, the default settings are too hard : before a match, lower your opponent level to Beginner-10 (instead of Club-10), that should greatly help you to get the hang on things (this + the helpers).

I just played a set and a half with Fernando Gonzalez against Taylor Dent in World Tour - Pro, previews off. He won but it was close, although i served like crap and it was difficult when he came to the net, i just had to hit hard so he hits out.
I don't see where this is a simulation. Hitting 1st and 2nd serve aces at 200 plus kph, crazy mega speed slice returns? And it's not about training. It's almost impossible to see the ball, much less have the reflexes. And it's not just me, it's everyone i played online. Just successive ace games. I didn't even had to learn to serve, its almost instantaneous aces to anyone that played videogames, or tennis games.

Maybe Manu should add a practice mode of the service into the game =))
BTW , I think you ," yellow " , should play in Warm - Up mode , not necessarily the exhibition mode and the World Tour mode . Of course when I played this game for the first time , I taught this game is very hard to control the player . You have to practice and practice more , don't lament that TE is hard . If you want to slow the game , play like a defender or use more slice . And change the levels of CPU to Beginner - Sub1 :D

@yellow
When I first started playing this game I had the same feeling as you have now; I forced myself to play the game (can't live a day without playing a tennis game:D) and now I can win matches against top players on Master1.
Even now I think the problems you've mentioned are a part of this game but as you practice more you'll learn how to deal with them (they won't disappear magically!).
Unfortunately there are a few tennis simulation games available on PC and among those this is the best one overall.

Well yellow you are not a TE God, so if u want to get the hang of it you need to practice against the CPU.... ... Even nowadays I think it's very hard to serve, and until last week, to return... Want an useful tip to return ? Use the autopos trick... Very easy when you learn how to do it... ... topic8-6180.php

@Rodrigo: Where ?

yellow,
yes, it's easy to serve in TE, but the serve is realistic ; 200+km/h 1st serve is totally normal. Fast 2nd serves are possible to do in real as well, but they'll lead to double faults, same than in TE. It's recommended to play in Realistic mode instead of Fair mode if you want to get more realistic serve speeds.
But returning is hard, coz it requires a lot : know where to position yourself, know how to correctly move your player, get good reflexes (same than a real tennis player), and do a smart strike selection (once you don't get aced anymore). Thus the big serve advantage as long as you don't know how to play the game well enough.

If you have problem to see the ball, you can raise its size in the In-Game -> Options menu.
If you play against more experienced players (ie: ELO above 1500), you won't ace them much anymore.

By default, on keyboard, Fire 1 = Left Alt, Fire 2 = Left Ctrl, Fire 1+2 = Left Windows or Left Alt + Left Ctrl.

Now that i followed marcos advice about the autoposition before the serve its so much more easy its ridiculous. And i keep what i said about serves, played an online game today and served more aces on 2nd serve than on first, and i don't really know how serve works, just learn while playing. It's so easy everyone just risks double faults.

Yeah right  I paid 40 quid for tps4 and sold it for half the price a few days later :annoyed: due to the fact the game had No depth. Fine the gameplay was there, but come on be serious!! It was an arcade game - You had to win masters tournaments to qualify for GRAND SLAMS! How realistic is that??

I've had this game now for a good few months and i'm no Expert, but practice does make perfect  Don't cry and spit your dummy out because you can't win straight away.

i appreciate what this small game developer has done :applause: They have brought to us the most realistic tennis sim EVER , and with the help of the team of mods it gets even better   :D
