The Career of Sammie Brown

Postby Serena Williams Fan » 04 Sep 2010, 20:39

Name: Sammie Brown
Country: USA
Age: 15
Turned Pro: 2009
Rank: 200

Hey Tennis Elbow community I decided to start a career after reading some of the career that other players wrote.

Background on Sammie Brown

She went thru her first year on tour and managed to make it in to the top 200. She’s a Power Baseliner that can hit winners from anywhere on the court.

Here’s an interview with her before her first match of the 2010 season.

Q: So Sammie you’re currently rank 200 in the world how do you feel about that?
S: It feels great I moving up the ranks much faster than I thought I would.

Q: Many people believe that your first year on tour was just lucky because you were a newcomer how would you respond to those critics?
S: They may be right but everyone will have to wait until the end of the year to see I’m not one of these younger teenagers that will disappear off the face of the map I’m here to stay for the next 10-15 years.

Q: So what are your goals for 2010 season?
S: I would love to win some Main tour title and move into the top 20 before the end of the year. I also want some decent results in the Grand Slam.

Q: Thanks for your time Sammie

Post Match Comments- “I’m so pissed and disappointed in the way I played it’s no excuse for me to make 52 unforced errors and 32 of them was forehand errors. I just let her defensive/ top spin style bother me and I should have changed my tactics but I didn’t. I will for sure be putting some more practice hours in before heading to the Sydney tourney because as you guys see I need it.” *As she storms out of the post match interview room*

Post Match Interview-

Interviewer: How does it feel to beat the #1 player in the world at the age of 15?

Sammie: I’m speechless and still believe that this is a dream.

Interviewer: We’ll Sammie it’s no dream you just beat Serena Williams the #1 player in straight sets. What gave you the confidence to fight back after being down 0-4 in the first set?

Sammie: To be honest I really don’t know, after she broke me for the second time with a winner on each point. I was just hoping not to get blown off the court because we all know she can do that at will when she playing her best tennis. But right before she served I start to think about how my game is 95% the same because she my idol and I really base my game off of hers so I just say think about your weaknesses and they probably the same as hers so ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK, and take more risk what more could I lose.

Interviewer: And it worked Congrats on your win

Sammie: Thanks.

Post Match Interview- I’m so glad to win my first Main Tour level tournament. I don’t think I played this well ever in my life and I’m hoping I can continue this for the rest of the year and get to a second week of an grand slam and also make it into the top 20 by year end.

Post Match Interview

Reporter: Congrats on Winning the Indian Wells Tournament how does it feel?

Sammie: Well first I would like to thank all the fans that been rooting for me as an underdog and also I would like to thank Na Li on a great match. This all feels like a dream. I always wanted to win this tournament because as a little girl my dad brought me to this tournament every year and to win it this early it’s just so magical.

Report: Let talk about your magical run to the finals where you beat 4 top 10 players in Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva, and Na Li. Because you are starting to become the Giant Killer that has a never die attitude.

Sammie: That something I wouldn’t think would happen this quick beating 3 of my favorite players and idols in a row. It’s just surreal the fact that I model my game after Venus, Serena and Elena and to play them and beat them it’s just something I can’t believe

Reporter: Well believe it. Not sure if you know this yet. But with winning the Indian Wells Title when next week ranking comes out you will be in the top 20 for the first time in your career and also become one of the youngest to accomplish this since Martina Hingis did it almost a decade and half ago at the tender age of 15. You will be ranked #17. How does that feel?

Sammie: O wow I didn’t know that because pretty much my coach really never let me see the ranking when I’m playing a tournament because he knows I will sit up all night trying to do the math to see what would happen if I win the tournament or if I lose in a certain round. But it’s just an honor to be mention in the same sentence with someone like Martina Hingis who is one great player. It’s something that I was hoping to achieve by the end of the season or possibly next season but not this early.

Reporter: Once again Congrats on winning the Indian Wells Title

Sammie: Thanks.

Post Match Interview- I really don’t know what happened today. I really wasn’t on my game and made too many errors. But all the credit has to go to her because she did pretty much make me press for shots that wasn’t there because she was defending everything and when she got the chance she would run to the net and defend just about everything I threw at her. I really just have to go back to the drawing board and get ready for the upcoming clay court season.

Post Match Interview- I really disappointed in how I played after gaining a lead in the match. As you guys saw I was up 4/1 in the first set and she seemed to raise her gain and I couldn’t keep the ball in the court and then again in the second set I start off the set with an 2/0 lead and she raised her game. In all honestly I believe I did choke and it’s no other way to look at it. But hey I’m still glad on my worse surface I did make it to a final which should put me in a good place for Madrid and the French Open.
