hi manutoo

ive played a couple of guys online who lob on return of serve. this is really annoying because it just proves that they can't win by playing conventionally. IF you tried to lob on return of serve in real life, and this is for a 125 mph flat serve, it would sail a mile long. on a slice serve going at 95 mph maybe, i would have no objections. but the fact that you can hit a lob on return, and have it land perfectly on the baseline to me is ridiculous, its almost impossible to attack. i know the lobs are something which have been debated highly, but this is one thing that P***** me off greatly

lobs on the rally are as hard as they should and i dont have any complain about that, but on serve return they still are completely annoying, got to agree with R.Gasquet

Hahaha! You are one of the few pioneers who originally invented the "lob on return" when this game started. Now you don't like it too? I just happen to be the one who perfected it.

While I think lob on return is a lame tactic, it's actually not that overpowered anymore. You can hit winners or tough shots from lobs at the baseline, and what's better, it's actually pretty easy to smash the lob, even if you weren't planning to serve and volley. It just takes some practice, but you can make the lobs ineffective pretty easily.

Maybe when playing online it's easy to smash, but when starting out on world tour you have nothing to smash with

Manu...While I understand about building your skills up over time in order to advance at the higher levels, there's still something surreal about playing the AI in these futures and challenge rounds. I KNOW tennis and I've been to many, many pro tournies and also enjoy watching the qualifying rounds. I mean, NOBODY is hitting with 80% or more topspin, shot after shot. Just about the ONLY real players I know of that come even close are Nadal and a Swedish player from back in the day named Kent Carlsson. Certainly you don't see that kind of spin in futures, maybe significantly more topspin on clay, but not the trajectories in TE. When I play at the junior level even on hardcourt it's just frustrating to me because it's not that I 'm not as good a player as some of the AIs that I lose to...it's not because they use superior tactics, but they have more speed, power and stamina than I have. It's not that I want to win everything immediately, I KNOW from the training mode that I CAN compete with them IF I can match their power and speed, KNOWING THAT makes it all the more frustrating. While I agree that winning everything too soon may not be fun...where's the fun in being DESTROYED knowing it's not because you CAN'T PLAY the game, but because the opponent has an unfair advantage. Kind of like playing against Superman. As I've mentioned before, if I try to use slice or dropshots to change up the pace or break up his timing the CPU just continues to speed all around the court and smacks the hell out of the ball. Contrary to what Togtdaylttai said in another post, volleying with low or no volley points is a JOKE. The CPU can run everything down and I can't because of minimal skills. There's little if any chance to use tactics to be competitive at this stage. While I certainly don't CHERISH losing, I don't mind so much losing to a better MAN, it's just losing to a COMPUTER that's more or less PROGRAMMED to beat me that gets me. In the later rounds, even at the junior levels, the player that beats me plays like he is INCREDIBLE, so I'm left to shake my head and just absorb the ass-whupping knowing I have NO skills to stop him. I realize that even if I HAVE comparable skills, there's still no GUARANTEE that I would win, but at least I could be more competitive and the CPU would have to EARN the win, not just smack winners left and right like he's playing someone mired in quicksand. After 2 or 3 games or a set like that, there's not much point in continuing the match... Just blowing off a little steam

About the Topspin. Yes, with too high Topspin setting, it seems unrealistic. BUT, it is mainly for only the topspin strike. Other shots are ok. Basically, if I set either me or CPU Topspin setting over 40%, the topspin strike becomes too loopy. All the other shots are ok; it is just the topspin strike. Which makes it even more difficult to put a player as Defender, because Defender even gets an added bonus to the already loopy topspin strike. I wish there would be a separate setting for the topspin-only strike, which could be modified. This would fix things greatly. Because sometimes I want to put the global Topspin setting at a higher percentage (I keep at around 30-35% for both me and CPU), but anything higher results in the topspin strike becoming unrealistically loopy. (In Devmode, "Spin" value anything over 65).
And for the speed, I use MTRUN when playing against the CPU (I raise acceleration, but I lower maxspeed down to 0.80), so I am able to set this value in the .ini, and then break it down more to get it just right by modifying the Speed setting in the Character Sheet. But I would also like to be able to modify the CPU's speed in the .ini. I play in incredible mode, and I have the CPU speed set to 0%, but he is still pretty fast. But I play on incredible because I like the CPU to hit really hard and be very consistent. It would be great if you could add a setting in the .ini to also be able to modify the CPU's speed (acceleration and maxspeed), in addition to the current Speed setting in the Character Sheet.
I'm telling you, with each update and each new setting that you allow to be modified, Manu, the game has become greatly realistic, comparing it to real-tennis and on TV. Sometimes its even hard to tell the difference when watching on TV (except for some graphics  ). I really hope that you can consider these 2 things, because this would, in my view, put it on par to the real thing. Graphics, can wait till another day (tho hopefully not too many years  ).

Brad1981...In the World Tour, you have no control over the opponent's skill set to be able to adjust his topspin strike. Heck, starting out you don't have much control over your own players skills. Seems you can't have but one skill that you can use as a weapon because to get even that you have to borrow from all of your other skills to the point where they are basically useless, while the opponent can have forehands, backhands, speed, stamina, and topspin ALL set to high levels.

It's kinda interesting what a li'l dose of mtrun plus a forehand set at 90%, backhand 55%, and a touch of speed and stamina can do on the World Tour! (even with a patty-cake serve) 8-) I'd been trying to play WITHOUT mtrun with minimal skills and just got positively SLAUGHTERED by the CPU opponents that had their skills set very high (80% or more in both forehand and backhand with speed, stamina and topspin set at 50% or more). I got to beat up on some of the same opponents (incredible?) that had previously beat up on me. I must admit that I got more than a little measure of satisfaction from seeing them struggle to try and smack winners all over the place like before, only to see them come back (most times with interest) I don't know if I will continue to use mtrun, more like it was a little test to prove my point that with just a COUPLE of comparable skills, speed and NO serve you can hang with some of the best of them. (if you know how to move your player and prepare your strokes). On the one hand since mtrun IS a cheat code, it CAN seem a little like looking in the back of the textbook for the answers  But on the other hand, since the CPU has the advantages of top speed, power, and stamina why not compete with those same advantages also? It's a lot more competitive and fun than helplessly watching winners fly by while you build up your skills

Brad1981...When you say that you use mtrun for play mainly against the CPU, do you mean Training Mode or World Tour?

I use it in training mode. I don't really play world tour...yet.

At the end of an online match, one cannot chat without accepting a rematch. The option to chat is there at the end of the match, but selecting it only produces a beep (no chat window).

Right mana.. I would like to tell you that your game is nice, but it is overpriced.. If you will put price lower, there will be much more people playing your game.. 24 dols is just way too much. If you imagine, that games which are coming on PS2 cost about same price, but how many people working on it, all that advertisment.. Sorry mate, shame i can not play this game..
