Display Bug?

Postby JLove » 27 Jan 2023, 04:48

So, I downloaded the demo version of TEM2 from the Mana Games website. I believe version is 1.0E. Ran installer as admin and installed normally. When I run TEM2, the first thing that comes up is a "configuration" window that has choices for graphics settings. This comes up when running the program each time, even after making selections running as admin, as if the selections aren't being saved. I set my resolution to 1920 x 1080 (standard resolution for my display). I hit "play". The game obviously loads to some degree, as I can hear music and the sound that is made when moving through a menu. However, nothing actually appears on the screen. There's an icon in the task bar as though the program is running, but only thing on the screen is still the desktop. Next, I tried checking the box that says "windowed". This forced my resolution to 800 x 600. This time when I pressed "play", a window for TEM2 appeared, but the screen remained white. Music played as though the game was loaded, and there was the usual sound as menu options were highlighted, but No actual menu choices ever appeared.
This is a gaming PC running the latest version of Windows 10. Intel I9-9900 processor, 32 GB RAM, Nvidia graphics card with 8 GB dedicated memory. I have had no issues playing other games on this PC at resolutions of 1920 x 1080. Any idea what's causing this? Current version of Windows is 10.0.19044 Build 19044.

Hello,

could you send the log file ? (HowTo => topic19-4589.php => Manually => Log File)

Alternatively, try to force the DirectX 9 Mode. (HowTo => topic11-31549.php )

I read through the log and everything looked fine. So, I tried forcing DirectX 9 mode. Ran TEM2 again. Config window came up yet again with choices for resolution; I changed and clicked play. This time, a menu does appear. Does this mean that I've got an issue with my DirectX? I've been able to run every other game successfully, including extremely resource-intensive games such as flight simulators, and when I run diagnostic for DirectX, it doesn't tell me there's any issue. According to my DirectX diag:

Re: Display Bug?

Postby manutoo » 28 Jan 2023, 06:37

Most probable cause : I use the engine Unity 5.6 for TEM2, and it has some bugs with a few GPUs on DirectX 11.
Alternate possibly : some few GPUs took some liberty in the way they support DirectX 11, and it requires extra work from the engine developers to avoid issues with them.

In both cases, it seems this has been fixed in more recent versions of Unity (like the one used by TE4), but TEM2 should stay on the 5.6 coz it's faster for the menus. :fear:
