Why TE4 physics & anims are so clunky? TE13 was perfect.

Hello,

1) Could you explain to me what points exactly in the TE4 physics are less good than in the TE2013 physics ?

2) For the animation, you have to be correctly positioned, else your player will do stretching, and sometimes silly things if you really play badly.
However, it may also still have a few bugs, so you're welcome to send me a Bug Report if you notice one. (HowTo => topic5-31732.php )

hello, sorry to encrust me but I am of the same opinion as idiantonik. I find that the gestures of the players are skimpy in forehand and backhand; it lacks fluidity compared to te13. I have the impression of playing with androids; maybe it will be improved before the final version.

lolo2b,
what is your framerate ? (you can turn on Settings -> Misc -> Draw Fps to check it)

It won't have any major change in the animations now. I just checked TE2013 vs TE4 and both are pretty similar when we're correctly positioned (at 120fps). I'll do probably a bit of tuning (eg: on low balls, the player could probably bend the knees a bit earlier).

I agree. Animations are very clunky, weird and unrealistic in some hits. The other tennis games have much better animations and movement. Thats the only thing thats dissapointing in game.

Would like to know which other tennis games are available that have better animations and movement, while TE4 is still a work in progress, I think the progress is far greater than that with whole studios working on their games given recent memory over how poor those tennis games are.

polakis,
if you notice some weird strike on special situations, you're welcome to send me a Bug Report (HowTo => topic5-31732.php ).

megadam,
I guess he meant that some better budget games have motion-captured animations. They don't have freedom of movement like in TE, though ; that is not possible to find in any other tennis games... :aureola:

polakis,
at least I'd see what are the problematic animations that would need some change.
If it's just the running animations then yes, I already know them... :)

Running animations especially backtraking, forehand slice animations are poor and unrealistic in my opinion. Rest is good

polakis,
ok, so it's not a big catastrophe..! :P
I'll try to improve the FH slice, which is indeed a very old animation that I had created without any visual example (only from my mind) and thus is of lesser quality than the other ones... :fear:

This is by far the best tennis game I have ever played. Even the original versions are better than anything else ever released. Since this is the topic, I just wanted to mention one thing I've held back from mentioning. I find that the game plays very fast. Almost like ping pong at times (especially the faster surfaces). I feel the ball is not bouncing high enough. Or maybe the acceleration strike is too powerful. Maybe that shot should be much riskier, so it's not used as much? Or have the power reduced from that shot?

Brad1981,
the ball bounce on fast surfaces, especially on grass, might be lower than in real life : it's much more like Wimbledon 2005 than 2010-2022.
Thus said, the acceleration isn't much powerful on low bounces, so it should partially compensate for that.
I may tune that a bit more when I'm working on the gameplay, though.

Hi Manutoo,
I think the drop-shots (not the drop-volleys) in TE4 bounces too high to make it a potent winner, Neither me nor cpu is able to hit a drop-shot winner for this reason. All drop-shots get chased down.
