Hi manutoo,
I think it would be a good idea to add an online ranked mode to boost online activity and competition especially now that TE4 is on Xbox and PlayStation. Other tennis games and games in general have it, and it encourages people to grind and play due to their natural competitive desire and ego, and not everyone would like to play tournaments. There could also be seasons where the ranking resets, as some players come and go.
Your ranking would be based on your elo. You could potentially also split it into different pages by mod i.e. Vanilla/Demo, XKT and XKT WTSL since our elo is a mix from games played in each setting and each of them play differently so skill would be encapsulated differently. The very moment someone has completed a match online in any of these configurations they would be added to the leaderboard. And maybe for the rankings to be more credible, you count games played either with the managames tour settings or wtsl tour settings otherwise there’d be too much variability in what we’re measuring.
The more I think about it, the more I feel like the leaderboard elo should be different from online exhibition elo to implement the aforementioned suggestions, i.e. the moment it were added, if it was to be, everyone on the leaderboards would start off at a base 1500 elo or something and it’s calculated separately for each leaderboard based on the matches which count towards that leaderboard, rather than starting with the elo accrued, over years for some, from a variety of conditions.
Our elo data, games played, reputation, quit rate etc, is already stored by you and connected to an ID so I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility to use it to create a leaderboard but you’d need to find a way for PC players to have an alias for identification rather than ID. For console players their console username could be used as identification.
I hope this is something you could try implementing, I think players would enjoy it.
