Simulation mode seems like Arcade mode

Postby CC » 19 Aug 2009, 05:27

I've been noticing while playing online games that improper positioning doesn't seem to result in errors as I had assumed that it would. Occasionally, particularly with a running shot, an error will result, but it seems that most shots with what looks like horrible positioning don't result in an error. I've watched many replays of online matches, which has confirmed this. I'm not sure that this happens with all players, as I do remember several months ago playing with some who had really poor positioning and who made many errors because of it. However, I doubt that there is anything that can be set with a player's skills or whatever that would give an advantage here, so I'm assuming that this issue is independent of a particular player. It's been a while since I have noticed errors resulting regularly from poor positioning.

With all of these matches, Simulation mode is being used. Really, I don't see how Arcade mode could make it any easier to hit error-free shots with poor positioning. I'm not referring to just safe strikes where the game returns the ball just because the player is in reach of it. I know that there is this "feature" where I think a safe strike hit with the racket handle results in a very short ball, but that isn't what I am talking about. However, certainly many of these out-of-position strikes were made with what appears to be the racket handle (but they weren't short or slow shots). What's going on :?:

This is frustrating, because sometimes I get into long rallies where the opponent does reach a ball that I thought would be a winner and returns it well even though the opponent was in a horrible position. I just have to keep waiting for the right moment to try to hit a winner again and hope that it will be successful.

The game would be much harder this way. Right now its so easy to hit the corners of the court that you have to do a lot of running which makes it much harder to position yourself well for every single shot. Newer players aren't so good at positioning so it would be impossible for them to survive in a long rally.

normally hitting a top spin shot would minimize the chances of error on wrong positioning, when I'm in a bad position to hit a hard shot as I like to do I usually hit back a top spin(even though I have 0 on that skill) and most of the times it doesn't end up being an error, obviously if I'm not THAT bad positioned

bad left/right positioning doesn't produce error directly, but :
- for risky shot (accelerations, drop shot, ...) it raises the imprecision, so it may result in an error
- for other shot, it only makes a weaker shot (shorter and/or slower ball)

only a bad front/back positioning can directly produce an error.

i have suggestion for cteators of this game,i think that some shots should make more difficult to do,particulary DROP SHOT,thats the more sofisticated shot in tennis and it takes high scill, and many times it finish in the net,i.e.not to override the net(in real tennis). Many players in t.e.win almost every poen using this shot especially they use that when is difficult situation for them in rely from base lane and use it endless without control and ofcourse with sucess.Imagine, in real tennis, that player take 70% of his points using drop shot succesfully...thats inpossible...its not for i dont like to use drop shot very offten(although i use it from time to time),but for the more realistic playing this interesting game...thaks and would be appreceative if i get a response

Santiago92, thx to confirm what I thought...

rnr, if :
- you're too far from the baseline
- or, you too close of the rebound
- or, misplaced on left/right
- or, don't prepare early enough
you'll do a poor drop shot, so the people who can do good drop shots deserve it.
After, some people have a lot difficulty to run to net to counter well the drop shot, so if it's ur case, work on it, and after a lil while, u should see that u can easily win 50% of these points, and a lot more if your opponent actually do poor drop shots...

What can I say? The game creator knows his game :) . He is right of course. Just keep running to that ball. I love to run up to a short shot like a drop shot and hit a short, accelerated forehand winner to the right corner (playing left-handed). It is very nice :) (especially when the opponent tries to return it with a two-handed backhand, and even more especially when he / she / it tries to return it with a two-handed FOREhand).

Also, I love to hesitate just a bit before running up to a drop shot, such that it seems like I won't return it, then run up and drop it over the net, stand back, shake, and watch it bounce that second time (on their side of the net).

hi,thanks for your opinion, and i must say i partly agree with you,but still im think that drop shot is most overrated shot in T.E. Maybe i got little nervous because i offten lose due that shot of my opponent, its really annoyin when after one or two relyes from base line almost allways arrives drop s.from other side(luckily minority of players do that).Such players are specialise in drop shot and congratulations for that but It really killing the spirit of game...ok, thats the things are set and i have to accept that ,anyway lets keep on playin
