Adding option of warm-up prior to matches

Postby CC » 15 Mar 2009, 14:10

This may be more of a topic for online games, but it also could apply to games vs. the CPU. What do you think about adding an option to have a brief warm-up prior to a match, where each player could hit a few feeds from the opponent (practicing volley, smash, etc.) and also practice serving? This would be like real tennis matches are played. I think that it would be neat. Maybe this would not be available if using the demo unless one of the player's has the full version, due to the time limit in the demo-only matches. This could also be done having the CPU take over the opponent's character for this warm-up session, and each player's warm-up could be shown in a split-screen prior to the match; this way, the CPU would be sure to hit the proper strikes for warm-up (shots for volley, lob, etc.), and it would take less time as each player could be doing the warm-up at the same time.

A similar request is for the addition of some training games, similar to what games like VirtuaTennis have. At least, could we have an aiming helper for practicing the serve that would not work in matches, but it would help us to see where a serve would be positioned prior to hitting it.

Training games would be cool, but I think it would be too much work for Manutoo to do just for an update.

It's easy enough to warm up in training now before playing World Tour matches, just the added effort in editing your opponent's stats. I'd rather just start World Tour matches immediately, to be honest. I guess for online it could be useful.

I think that the warm-up is a great idea, even if only in regular training mode...
As CC stated, perhaps the CPU could be made to give a "proper" warm-up on request, that is, hit shots and lobs TO the player instead of trying to hit "winners" helter-skelter all over the place...more like a "real" warm-up...
It's tough enough already trying to practice making good contact on the volley, what with having your player "jumping" all over the place just trying to "catch up" with the CPU's shots and lobs...
Maybe have an option for JUST lobs or JUST groundies, as well as an option to keep it "as is" when you want more of a challenge...
I've already posted to Manu about it and it's something that he is considering for the future...
