Automatic ping refresh until 250 ms is reached

Manutoo,

Please consider adding the feature of an automatic number of ping retries, stopping when the limit of 250 ms is reached. As it is now, I may click Refresh repeatedly, hoping to get that magic number, but the problem is that I may accidentally click it just as the magic number has been obtained. It is just a little frustrating when that happens :wink: .

So, what do you think about this? Maybe the game could either automatically keep pinging a selected host a certain number of attempts (as we wouldn't want to flood the server too much), or the player could have some control over this option. Either way, when that very special magic number is obtained, the game could stop there so that it is not lost.

Also, would it be possible to display the IP of someone wanting to join a hosted game? When I host and someone tries to join, I see their name and the ping results, and it would be nice to also see their IP address. I can get this from my firewall, but having the IP visible in the game would be much more convenient.

Hello,

no, the auto-refresh to get a ping under 250 is exactly against the idea to need a ping under the max to enter the game. If you get the ping under the max only once in a while, you shouldn't enter this game. If you have to enter it for a tournament, your opponent should give u his IP.

And no, I won't display the IP, it's a sensible information, and even it's easy to find it for a computer savvy people, I prefer to not help to get it...

OK. That's fair. I'll have to ponder what you said about how it is better to not have the auto-refresh. If the ping is a little high, I keep hitting refresh until I can get a ping at the 250 ms or lower; often, someone beats me to it, so by the time I have the good ping, the game is taken. I don't understand why making this easier would be an issue; however, I don't play the tournaments, so I need to look at this from the perspective that you gave. I can see your point somewhat. It would be nice if we had to option of whether or not to use and auto-refresh, but I guess you are saying that then everyone would use it and maybe you are saying that they wouldn't know what quality of connection they have in reality since the ping would not indicate this. Hmmm. I see that information after the game as been connected and I am waiting for the game to be accepted (the ping constantly refreshes and the packet loss is displayed); isn't this the point where that decision could be made about the quality of the connection?

With the IP, that's fine. I'm not sure what the harm is in giving it, but I'm sure that you have reasons for this. So many players change their name or use the same name that it is hard to know really with whom you are playing sometimes. I'll just use other means.
