Removing qualifiers from the schedule

Postby holt77 » 20 Jul 2025, 12:05

Hi,

If I remove the qualifying tournaments from the Futures, Challengers, and possibly 250s, is that likely to cause any issues?

The reason I'm considering this is because in the game, when a player enters a qualifying tournament, they are automatically booked for two weeks, regardless of whether they are successful in qualifying or not. This can have a knock-on effect, especially for players ranked outside the top 100 entering qualifiers for events that take place the week before Grand Slam qualifiers. It means that Grand Slam qualifiers are often full of players ranked in the 200s and 300s, with many players ranked in the 100s missing out, having taken part in ATP 250 qualifiers the week before. I'm trying to rebalance this a little. In real life, players who fail to qualify for a tournament can enter a different event the following week, but I can understand why this doesn't happen in the game, as the following week's entries are already set.

The only ways that I can think of to rebalance this are to remove the qualifying tournaments for ATP 250 events and below, and then to decrease the BestPlayer number for the higher-level Challenger events to compensate (these numbers should be slightly lower anyway).

Hello,

1) You can likely remove the qualies without problem

2) But I just checked the qualies draw for the AO Slam and there were plenty of 100's : the 32nd seed was #162, so only 1 rank was missing from 120 to 162 for the seeds.
Do you have Challengers on the same week as the Slams ?

I'm using XKT as a base. I've never experienced the top 32 seeds for Grand Slam qualifying all being ranked below 162. I've just done a quick test in a new game and the 32nd seed was ranked 188, but the majority of non-seeded players in the draw are ranked in the 200s and 300s, and even a few 400s. I'm not sure how to get it so that players ranked in the 100s and low 200s prioritise Grand Slam qualifying. Many of the players in the 100s that take part in the ATP 250 qualifiers (and don't qualify) in Week 1 seem to miss the Australian Open qualifiers in Week 2.

Should I update the TopPresence for Grand Slams to 1 or 0.99? Will that also affect the qualifiers?

Maybe the XKT added some Challenger on the same week as the Slams ?

TopPresence might not work for the qualies.

There is one Challenger in Week 2 (Category 18, BestPlayer = 190) at the same time as the Australian Open qualifiers, and then one Challenger in Week 3 during the first week of the Australian Open, which is also Category 18, so these shouldn't affect entries to the Australian Open qualifiers too much. Many players ranked in the 100s are just inactive in Week 2.

Hum, that's strange ; in the official game, there are 3 Challengers on the Week of the AO Slam. (and 1 the week before)

I made another attempt, and the 1st qualifier seed was 129, and the 32nd was 186, so it seems pretty normal.

I don't know why you don't get the same result... :fear:

I've done a bit of checking entries to qualifying draws for other tournaments, using the unmodded game.

I simmed through a couple of seasons, then went to the Rotterdam (500) and San Jose (250) tournaments in Week 7.

Rotterdam:

Main Draw LD player: Rank 78
Qualifiers 1st Seed: Rank 117
Qualifiers 8th Seed: Rank 211
Qualifiers Lowest Rank (non-Wildcard): 336

San Jose:

Main Draw LD player: Rank 139
Qualifiers 1st Seed: Rank 157
Qualifiers 8th Seed: Rank 353
Qualifiers Lowest Rank (non-Wildcard): 571

There seems to be a huge drop-off between the main draws and the qualifiers. I think this is partly due to normal schedule congestion (Week 7 has one 500, two 250s and two Challengers - one of which has BestPlayer = 130, in addition to qualifiers for the 500 and two 250s in Week 8). But when I click on some of the players ranked in the 100s and 200s, many were inactive in Week 7.

I guess it's programmed into the game that players will take a certain number of rest weeks during the season, which probably explains it?

Yes, players are greatly incited not to play every week, to get around 25~30 played tournaments per year for the lowly ranked players (and less for the top players).
