Serve

Postby ism » 09 Jul 2012, 01:29

Hi

I am in first season World Tour, difficulty Pro-5, starting rank 1000. Have played a few futures, but have never done much, mainly due to a complete inability to serve.

When first serve goes in, it's fine, and I'm getting a high percentage of points on first serve. However, I'm struggling to get above 25% first serve in any game. It either goes wide, long, hits the net, anywhere but in the service box, I probably break more than I hold at the moment.

I understand that players at that level aren't very good (in comparison to the top guys anyway!) and serve percentages aren't going to be high, but I should be able to push towards 50-60% surely? Anyone got any tips on technique?

Service stats are Power 50%, Consistency 29% and Precision 60%

Hello,

your issue comes from the Serve Consistency which is under the Power. You should aim to something like : Power 45% / Consistency 45% / Precision 45% ; it'll be much better. When Power equals Consistency, you'll have 70% serves in (not including your left/right aiming mistakes).

Thanks

Getting it up above 60% now having put my consistency up level with the others.

Can I ask what the difference between Consistency and Precision is? As I thought it was Precision that needed to be higher than Power for high serve percentages (hence why it was so high!)

Read here : https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Ten ... ml#service .

Precision influences only the size of the zone where the ball can land. So the higher it is, the easier it is to aim for the lines.
