Ambiance sounds

Postby Catsee145 » 15 Sep 2011, 16:55

Hey Manu,

It would be much better when the sound of the atmosphere of the court has something like (I can't really word it out or can't say what I want to say) hot air in the atmosphere?? Do you get what I mean? I can't word it out. Because if we make new grunts then it would be annoying if that air sound come with the grunt.

Hello,

I think that's called ambiance sound, or background noise.
Anyway, if that noise doesn't match the one in your grunt fx, then it'll be still bad (maybe a bit better than without any noise, though).
You have to find some grunt fx without almost no parasitizing noises (ie: ball & crowd), and remove the bg noise with a noise filtering function, usually available in most audio softwares.

Oh, Manu, I have tried Audacity with some noise removal function and other options, but it will make the grunt horrible, and, it only makes the background noise still audible like there is no difference.

Actually I tried and had a 5 minutes sound-loop played in winamp while playing tennis elbow. It was a field recording from a park I think. It was a little wind and a little traffic noise and some birds and it lifted the game into a whole new level of atmosphere!

Manu, if you are still interested in game music and ambience and sound in general, I'm still enthusiastic about it.
