Crash during ATP Finals

Postby bradrj » 01 Sep 2025, 20:20

Hi,

I have been playing TE2013 for several months, but just came across an issue that I have not been able to resolve. I’m running into a repeatable crash in World Tour mode during the ATP Finals. I'm using version 1.0j of the game, the GoldenSlamTenis 2023-24 mod, and am 5 years into my career save

Crash log:
Error: Access Violation at TennisElbow.exe 0023:00bf49c1
Happens at the moment the game tries to schedule #3 vs #8 in round robin.

What happens:
- I qualify for the ATP Finals as the #3 seed.
- My first round robin match (vs #5 seed) plays fine.
- When I advance to play the second RR match (always vs the #8 seed), the game shows an error message and crashes.
- The error always happens before the matchup screen loads.
- This is my second time in the ATP Finals during this save and I did not run into the issue previously, so it’s not a universal issue — it seems specific to this seed matchup. I must have been in the other group that did not have the #8 seed last time.

What I’ve tried so far:
- Tried loading multiple backup saves (from Week 43, 44, before the draw, etc.) → the same draw regenerates deterministically, and the same crash happens.
- In some test cases the #8 player changed (i.e. originally was Dimitrov but in another trial it was Etcheverry) → game still crashes at the #3 vs #8 slot.
- Simplified outfit codes for all Finals players → no effect.
- Tested all 8 Finals players in Exhibition mode → all load/play fine.
- Compared the modded Tour.ATP.ini and TourCategory.ATP.ini vs vanilla → Category15 definition is identical (Type = MasterCup, DrawSingle = 8,etc.) and the only differences in Tour.ATP are the Tournament#, location, and prize money, none of which should cause the error.
In past seasons I’ve successfully played the Finals with the same mod, so it’s not a universal issue — it seems specific to this seed matchup.
- Tried skipping Finals, but I am always auto-entered as #3

My suspicion: it looks like a bug in the round robin scheduler for the ATP Finals: specifically, the slot where seed #3 is scheduled to face seed #8. The crash is consistent regardless of who #8 is. I searched for similar posts, and only came across a patch report where for an earlier build of the game, there was a crash caused by draw selection logic for #8, but this bug should not exist for me since I should have the later version. I believe this was fixed in v0.99 and I have 1.0j installed.

Is there some sort of fix or workaround for this so I can keep this career save alive? And also a way to address the root issue so I won't encounter it in future career saves? For future careers, would changing TourCategory.ATP Category15 from MasterCup → MainDraw (to run the Finals as a simple 8-man knockout) be a safe solution?

Thanks in advance for any help. I can provide my System.log, Tour.ATP, Players.ATP, etc files if needed.

Hello,

I'm afraid your career is dead.

I don't think it's about your match against the #8. Check the doubles draw of the Master Cup, maybe it misses a player.

Another possibility would be having the 8th player (or doubles team) from a grand slam winner instead of the 8th best-ranked player or team.

If you set the Master Cup as an 8-man draw, you may not have all the best players in it (but it should be almost okay if you set TopPresence & TopTopPresence to 1), but you'll indeed avoid any crashes related to the Master Cup.
