To be a good volleyer

Postby Marcos Nion » 26 Feb 2014, 04:00

Hello, on the last few days I've been playing more on the net, however I suck at it  , so I'd like if someone gave me some tips on how to approach the net properly, how to Serve & Volley, and the best time to do so... Thanks in advance...

Hello,

1 quick advice : most of time, use B1 serve to do S&V, not B1+B2, and slice it often, so it'll give you more time to reach the net.

Thanks manu... Is it risky to S&V under pressure (like facing BP), or it's ok too?

It's kinda risky ; but if u can do solid S&V, and change your serve for that occasion (for example, you always do flat B1+B2 serves, and you change to a sliced B1 serve), then maybe your opponent will be surprised and won't do a good return, so the outcome depends a lot on his return skills.

I think, the same as in real life. Basic is also most important. It is that you should prepare your point very well, not going at net "wildly". If your opponent gives you short ball somewhere at the middle of the court, for me it is great opportunity to attack, come into court and approach the net! Do not hit some power shot from baseline and run at the net if you are into middle of the rally! Also (if you are right handed) if you serve slice serve diagonally from right side to the court, most probably your opponent will not be able to shot diagonally return (or if s/he tries it will not be perfect) so you can approach net going more into left side on the court but still be careful and in the middle that you can catch any shot! I didn't try this in the game much, but I think it should work like this too. ;) Also, of course, it is very obvious, train your volleys more than other shots (forehand, backhand but especially lob, counter, etc.)

well i think u shud ask this to my brother. i am now a better volleyer but i think he is unbelievable at net. as manutoo said variable serving is the key. don't allow ur opponent to detect the point while coming to net. also i dont know how he manages to volley even when i hit short acceleration. crazy at net lol

Choose your player's playing style is Counter (for player like Federer, Sampras, McEnroe, etc.). The reason I recommend this playing style is that you can hit a lot of acceleration in a long rally,

So practice to hit a hard and flat approach shot (B1+B2) to the weaker side of opponent. CPU in this case usually response with a short ball in the middle of the court or some easy ball which give you the oppoturnity to move forward, then hit as hard as you can to the weaker side of CPU, CPU in this case usually response with a high and low slice trajectory (you will find it easy to volley) =>>>

Then quickly run to the net (DON't let your body too close or too far with the ball when volley) =>>>

Then press b2+down+right or left to perform a drop volley. It can be hard as first, but with litte practice you will feel very satisfied when successful (my favorite moment and my favorite shot is drop volley). And trust me when you do the drop volley the CPU most likely can't get to the ball (sometimes player like Nadal or Murray can chase down your drop volley but they will response with a ''kind'' ball and you will find it easy to volley. In very RARE occassion, they can lob or hit a passing shot if your volley's timing is not good.

I usually use b2 when perform a volley. It's much safer than b1 or b1+b2

If you can guide me how to upload a video here I will upload my net game against the CPU

Hope it helps and enjoy your game :D
