Lob

Postby Nicolas » 03 Dec 2013, 12:28

Hey Manutoo

I bought your game last week, adn i enjoy it a lot.
The game play is really good, but i have one problem :

the efficiency of the going forewar to volley is too much for two reasons :
- the net presence : i searched on the forum, you explained how to decrease it, so ok
- the inefficiency of the lob. I play pro (less than 5 for the moment), i can lob the AI, but it's very random (in fact i can lob the Ai when my player is a bit misplaced and his lob is not perfect, near the line). but in 95% of the case, the AI can go back and smash it easily or even volley (!) my lob.
Again, i searched the forum : you said you were considering decreasing the velocity of the player when he goes back his baseline. maybe you can also increase the speed of ball when we lob.

Either of these solutions are okay i think, if they increase the efficiency of the lob. as you know, in tennis it is a very important weapon : dropshot and then lob. the dropshot is good in the game, but not the lob, so tactically, the dropshot is less usefull than it could be, and it's a pity.
are you gonna add it to the next update ?

thanks!

Hello,

ball speed on lob is already maximal ; if faster, it couldn't stay in the court or be as high...

bro, lobs in real life get banged with a smash all the time. And i think the game has good and enough speed on lobs. If ur opponent is in good position coming to net then it means he played a really good shot to come to net, so even if u play the best lob there is nothing much u could do. All u can expect is a bad smash from ur opponent. It's similar to that in real life. But if ur opponent is too close to net and in uncomfortable position then i bet u can hit a winner with an attacking lob. Or even a defensive lob lol. I see when i move backward and i miss a smash then its almost impossible to catch it after even if u move really fast backward. U shud be happy that lobs are so fast. Because in reality, we see guys like Federer and Nadal catch them even after they miss the smash lol

Hello everyone

Manu : maybe it is not the speed that is in question then, but the height of the ball. the AI shouldn't be able to volley my lob with only two steps backward if my lob was supposed to hit the baseline :?:
with more height and less speed, maybe the adverse player will be lobed and will have for only possibility to run to his baseline to play the ball. so n 201 will be happy :)
Anyway, i think you know about this problem more than me, since a lot of guys have been talking about it ^^

that's a good point. Height is something which can be considered. Melanie Oudin hits so many high lobs when she wants to defend :D its quite possible

Nicolas,
depending of your lob skill & the time you prepared it, the lob can get very random, and thus too short to be effective ; it might be the reason you see the CPU volleys some of your lobs...

I think the lob is pretty realistic in this game.

The main problem for me is the OVERHEAD SMASH. Sometimes you make a perfect lob over your opponent and he still smash it with an AWFUL TIMING (even without the ball touching the racket, the player or anything), and the ball goes always inside... :S
