the most important aspect of the game is probably the return of serve. It's the shot that can allow you to be in a dominant position throughout the whole rally even if your opponent serves a solid first serve. How do you return usually? Do you use slice return? Or you go for a top spin deep ball? Or, instead, do you accelerate by hitting a flat acceleration trying to steal him the timing after the serve? I know that the return most of times depends on how your opponent served but I'm just wondering what kind of return do you try to go for when you have the chance to choose.
I think that the best return is a top spin long and deep ball. When I try to hit a flat shot most of times I hit the ball too early or too late and what comes out is just a short ball not very dangerous and i always end up by taking a winner or starting the whole rally running here and there defending right and left, left and right. But sometimes I return a very long and deep ball (i do it by returning in top spin but not holding the DOWN button for too long, just half second before the ball reaches my racquet) and that is the return that forces my opponent to take one or two steps back and play a not very deep ball which allows me to start the rally in a very good position. The bad thing is that I can't return in that way very often and when my timing is not perfect I just offer a stupid and short ball in the middle of the court.
Do you have a particular returning style, especially in Online matches (where potentially every player is a top player)?
