Mental Toughness

Postby percy896 » 20 Jun 2007, 15:50

I was thinking about one of my requests for TE2006, and I realized that it would be much more practical to use it in TEM!

TEM is a master simulator and is extremely realistic. The only big thing it lacks is a certain type of mental aspect, the most important: Mental toughness, "heart", "fight", whatever you call it. In fact, this in real life determines the champions; it seperates the grand slam winners from the constant finalists.

A great example is from the WTA tour: Serena Williams. If Serena played, say, Nadia Petrova is the finals of Wimbledon, there is a 95% chance that Serena would win simply based on her mental toughness and ability to "rise to the occasion." Even is Petrova had better skills or was playing better, Serena has the huge advantage because of her mindset.

Please, it is essential that you implement this into TEM. It is already a great simulator but is missing this ever so important aspect. A value could give a player a bonus or malus in a final or in grand slams, that could be editable in the Player.in (or it could even be a talent). When I think of champion, I don't think of the ability to beat players worse than you, but the ability to play your best in the important occasions.

Thanks Manutoo 8)

I don't know if this would apply to the same skill, but maybe there could be something that allows a player to play better against players better than themselves, instead of worse than themselves.

Hey menutoo, have you thought about implementing this into one of the two games? It would really be much appreciated.

I think this feature is just the one this game needs to be as realistic as tennis can be.

A real life example, I'm Chilean, and in the people's memory still are the Gold medals won by Massú and Gonzalez in Athens 2004.

Massu is the example of this subject, he is a fighter a winner by definition, we all know he is not a great player, but we do know that he'll play 150% not to lose, and 200% if he's playing for Chile. He has an Iron heart.

I know because you need to be able to dig yourself out of holes like Serena and Venus does like at the AO 2005 Serena saved 2 match points and won the next 2 games win 8-6 in the 3rd setThey need to do that.

Hello,

yup, I'll think about this when I'll do the next update for TEM (within the next few weeks)...

Could the "Mental Toughness" just derived from the "Cold Blood" skill ..?
