Career Diary - Summer Walker

Postby PattySchnyder » 17 Apr 2011, 04:13

So guys I've decided to give back to the community, Yes It's me Patty Schnyder of course.

Some of you know about me and my credentials, but we wont talk about that I want to talk about my new prospect I'm coaching

Now Summer won't be a future #1 or GS winner, but I'm hoping she can make the top 150 and consistently be playing WTA level events. Her Talent is limited to 70 (Everybody can't be as talented as me of course!) Summer is 5"11 which is above average on the WTA. Summer is from the USA, She trains in Georgia. I saw her at the Orange Bowl and decided to take her under my wing. Summer is only 15 right now so we'll play a few ITF's and see how it goes.

Summer is a powerbaseliner, She likes to hit her forehand as much as possible and has a solid two hander. She likes to play big babe tennis. She's mentally tough and also has a nice backhand slice to change up the pace of a rally. Her volleys are only average.

And So here we begin the 2003 season kicks off

WTA Top Ten:

1. Serena Williams (USA)
2. Venus Williams (USA)
3. Jennifer Capriati (USA)
4. Paola Suarez (ARG)
5. Kim Clijsters (BEL)
6. Nadia Petrova (RUS)
7. Monica Seles (USA)
8. Jelena Dokic (AUS)
9. Daniela Hantuchova (SVK)
10. Justine Henin (BEL)

With 4 Americans in the top ten, Summer hopes to be there one day.

Re: World Tour - Summer Walker

Postby PattySchnyder » 17 Apr 2011, 04:52

We decided to train for about 27 Weeks without Summer playing any real tournaments but just working on her game and doing practice sets/matches.

Well its time for her first tournament ITF tournament! Yipee

2003 Week 28 - 10,000 USA F1 (Clay) -- #768

Q1: Summer Walker (USA) def. Anne Yelsey (USA) 6-2, 6-2

Summer started off pretty well, but Anne has nothing to hurt her with. Anne is a puncher who's strokes are in the 30s so as I expected Summer won quite easily and wins her first match!

Q2: Florentina Cuperene (ROU) def. Summer Walker (USA) 6-0, 6-1

Instead of resting up like she should have, Summer goes out and parties and plays this match with very low energy (70%), While Florentina had 99% Energy. Florentina same as Anne in the previous match has no big shot, but moves on clay pretty well and makes Summer overthink.

2003 Week 29 - 10,000 USA F2 (Cement) -- #768

Q1: Summer Walker (USA) def. Lisa-Bonder-Kreiss (USA) 6-0, 6-1

Lisa is 28 who plays with a ton of topspin, her game isnt as effective as it is on clay, Summer wins pretty easily wit 5 Aces and 57% first serve percentage. 6/13 on break points which are decent stats.

Q2: Iveta Gerlova (CZE) def. Summer Walker (USA) 6-2, 6-4

Low energy again..this time only 57%. Not sure why Summer plays one match then gets tired the next, We will have to work on her fitness these next few weeks. All Iveta did was wait for Summer's errors. Summer is playing 2 more weeks then we'll rest up for 4-6 weeks.

2003 Week 30 - 10,000 USA F3 (Cement) -- #770

Q1: Summer Walker (USA) def. Annika Narbe (SWE) 6-1, 7-5

Annika another player who plays with power was off in the first set, but both girls went at it in the second with Summer being the more consistent of the two. Summer also served alot better. Summer converted 6/15 Break point's which worries me a bit.

Q2: Iciri Rai (IND) def. Summer Walker (USA) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4

Another loss! This match lasted 2 hours and 12 minutes, Once again Summer came out with low energy (73%). After next week we are for sure going to work on fitness

2003 Week 31 - 10,000 USA F4 (Cement) -- #771

Q1: Summer Walker (USA) def. [4] Yael Segal (ISR) 0-1, Ret.

Summer got lucky this girl had food poisoning because she came out flat with low energy again (53%)

Q2: Summer Walker (USA) def. Suchanan Viratprasert (THA) 6-3, 6-1

A little bit better today, Summer makes it to the Final round of qualifying for a ITF event.

Q3: Summer Walker (USA) def. Karin Knapp (ITA) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Summer is fustrating me, she only converted 6/26 break points (23%!!) Atleast she served well and qualified. Karin looks to be pretty solid she looks like a future top 100 player.

R1: Summer Walker (USA) def. [4] Nuria Montero 6-3, 6-3

Pretty solid stuff from Summer today, 66% first serve percentage and 30 winners. Nuria looked a bit tired today, but Summer needs some luck to get confidence.

R2: Angelika Bachmann (GER) def. Summer Walker (USA) 6-4, 6-3

Angelika a varied player with a good return of serve gave Summer some problems today, Well back to more training!
