I guess I'm probably to blame , but oddly my player doesn't hit the ball on the last point of this recorded match:

2010-04-10.14-00 - CC_W7 vs P.2 0-3.dmo

He reaches out for a forehand swing and practically grabs the ball (so he must be in range), and he almost eats the ball, but he does not hit the ball (does kind-of swing and miss, though (if you can call it a swing (as it is not complete swing due to some issue)).

Hello CC,

you're just never in range of ball, you ran back too far & don't get close enough before the 2nd rebound...

PS: look the shadow of the ball when you're not sure how far it is actually from your player...
