Random luck

Postby Petr Kroppe » 14 Oct 2013, 00:30

Guys i just want to start discussion about random luck.
No, its not next blah blah blah 'I lost again and i want to blame on it whole world'.

During my short career i had such a situations:
1) My opponent firstly wrote to me on topic 'hi, when" and that was his first and last contact. I responsed included time im available, next day 2nd time, 3rd time, try to add him at skype and stay online in forum for a long time. Rules said that there was contact from both sides so there should be RL. But in fact he didnt even say time - just 'hi, when?'. I lost that match with RL, rules are rules, but on the other side he didnt show up next match and lost it with W.O. In my opinion the side who tried contact storngly gives more chances to show up in next round. I know not everybody are in game each day each week. But many players have time when they put a lot of attention to game (practicing each day etc) and then they are eliminated in tour play by guys who didnt pay so many attention.

2) Now, I have problem with my opponent. He is showing up for five minutes at forum and each time asking "when". I stay online on forum, wrote some messeges, even declare that i'll check topic each full and half hour between 20-24, tried to add him at skype, and we (or sb with the same nickname, we can check that in logs) even played practice, but then he closed connection before i asked him to play regular match . By rules it looks like we both tried to contact and there should be RL. But i feel that wont be fair cause he didnt spend so many time to try contact opponent. Probably it will finish by RL. Nothing matter that I spend whole week on refreshing board, skype and practicing.

Have you any doubts about RL system or this is just me?

Hi,

Same opinion for me.... Some players wrote a small contact, sometimes via a smartphone but they are not at home or can't play but they write a message just hoping to win by RL

Really not fair

Hello,

1) in that case, there are 2 possibilities :
a- Mod overlooked the situation too fast and then you can ask the RL to be changed to WO by exposing your case.
b- your opponent is actually often online on Skype, but not in the same time than you (although only 1 quick message like that on the Forum should make the Mods think about giving a WO instead of doing a RL)

2) this case is more complex and unfortunately it's hard to know for the Mods to know you did much more than your opponent to play

Mods may give precisions and/or give other explanations, they have more XP than me dealing with all this..! ;-)

Manu I dont want to revision this situations I described here. I just want to start discussion. Maybe we can figure out sth what will work better?
Sth what can value activity of both sides. And IMO concerning activity of players could conclude in more matches played (not RL or W.O.) in furter rounds.
That doesnt hurt me when I lost via RL. That hurts when you praciticing a lot, you pay a lot of attention to tournament, lose via RL, and then in next round your opponent is losing by W.O..

I'll try to write more posts about my activity in matches topics. Maybe that will help.

Petr Kroppe,
as outlined in my previous post, the main problem is for Mods to be able to measure the determination to play of both players.

But if you have ideas to do things better, you can of course expose them..!
