Slice Accelerations Banned!

Postby Togtdyalttai » 26 Aug 2009, 06:08

Slice accelerations have been banned in online tournament play, beginning at the US Open. This is how it will be put into effect:

1. Everyone is encouraged to record their matches (or if that is not possible, take screenshots of the slice acceleration in replay). Without proof, nothing will be done.

2. Accidental slice accelerations can happen, so this rule will be lenient about that to a certain extent, but if multiple slice accelerations are being used on important points (like break points) that will be overrided.

3. The punishment for breaking this rule is automatically losing the match you broke the rule in and forfeiting all ranking points won for the current tournament.

Wow that's harsh, and this might create big problems in the future....
E.g. I'm playing with you, I never used the slice before and at 4-3 30-40 I ''accidentally'' click on it, It means I 'm the loser of that match !?

Hmm, I think I play this shot differently to other people...I always play it by accident though, but when I want to play it on purpose I can too 8-) ...Well anyways, no more power slice :fear:
I think the rule about confiscating the points is too harsh. Imagine someone reaching the final of the US Open and playing that shot a few times by accident or not, I think he still deserves the points he earned prior to that match...

ppl aren't stupid and can distinguish between the two , and we all know each other and know when a player has yes or no used it deliberately , plus when two players are fair they can close their eyes abt one or two shots , so I think the big blem will be against players who really use it deliberately .

well u know it really does take quite a while for the slice action to occur, normally if ur on the run its just a normal stroke, so it will be distinguishable...

can't we do the same for lob on serve return??

it's really unrealistic and some players abuse of thi shot, mainly in doubles.

Exactly. It is more than obvious whether the shot has been used on purpose or not. People don't need to worry about accidentally using it, because the mods will look at the video and if it's an accident you'll be fine. Seriously, everytime anyone's used this shot against me it has been immediately obvious whether it was an accident or not.

This obviously was a tough call for the mods and of course there are going to be skeptics. I think though that this is the best way they could have handled this tricky situation :) .

Tati, sorry but it's stupid, if you are at net, why can't people use this shot? You have to be intelligent...

i don't agree tati...

look... it's unrealistic i know..

but it's possible!

now think..i'm pro and i'm getting crazy so i will lob on returns or in rallys?? what's up?

type of game, i don't use it but it's possible in real life... and slice acelaration...that's impossible to do...so that's why you'll be banned if you do that :)

when you hit a 200km/h serve, i am sorry but it's impossible to hit an acceleration lob! maria won a title with lobs on every point, i don't call that an interesting game.

during rallies why not, but some players use it even when you are behind your baseline after your first serve. this is ridiculous!
