Yep, you're right. He actually does it but for some reason I always look at his backhand and think that something is wrong. I think its the end of the swing,that's making it look a bit weird.The way he hits the ball in real life is a bit different. Also, the distance between his feet seems to be bigger in real life as well. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 4oY#t=146s - Pause at 2:26 / http://s17.postimage.org/nkd8ac8gf/Untitled3.jpg - the positioning of his feet are different from the game as well)

The end of his backhand swing in real life: http://s17.postimage.org/b4giglf4f/Untitled.jpg
The end of his backhand swing in game: http://s10.postimage.org/3wj2mj1h5/Untitled2.jpg

Regarding his serve - everything is absolutely perfect until the last frames. He raises the racquet up in the air a bit late, in real life he does it earlier, look here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 0mM#t=105s ). What do you think ?

PS: I know I'm a bit overcritical, but my intentions are always good! Just trying to help you see the small details that need to be fixed so we can have peRFect animations! :)

Don't worry about that...I'm perfectly fine with it ;) I received many suggestions that I took into consideration..sometimes though I disagree..People have in mind a picture of how an animation should be but as in your case, it's just in your mind...in real life it's different. Happens to me too that yesterday I liked how a certain animation worked but today for some reason it doesn't look so good. Anyway, it's not I always try to copy the real life version....I change it in my own way if I feel it will look better ingame..This time I feel the backhand looks good ingame and it is copied from the real life a best as I possible can.

Anyway:
1. About the distance between the feets, what you showed me is a low ball backhand hitting postion. The distance is higher because he's reaching out to hit the ball...he's not expecting it to come as it is for a "normal-high" ball height. I created the last one because it suits better to different positions of the ball ingame...How it will look the backhand you showed me with a high-ball position ?
Anyway, I could have made a higher distance between the feets...I actually did that I the first version...I didn't do it this time because I wanted to have the correct "sweetspot" so I couldn't go to the left too much

2. :)) I can show you hundreds of other videos where the racquet position is different from the video you showed me...Fed's backhand in general it's different from one stroke to another as it is for the racquet position.
Besides that, you didn't make a correct comparison between the video and my animation...in the video, you took the racquet position when Federer is about to bring back the racquet to the front...in my animation, you took the racquet position when Federer was full stretched and when it had the left foot up in the air. These are two different moments in the backhand process...you can't compare them.

I understand you feel something is wrong about the animation. As I said, it happens to me too with my animations...but there's no major flaw there and no big difference from the real life in my opinion

Could be. Well overall the backhand is ok, but it can be slightly improved I guess. Anyway I just wanna say thank you for your work as an animator, you made my game experience a lot more enjoyable,keep it up Lucian :wink:

Yeah, it could be...you were certain the left foot didn't move up in the air but as you could see, it was just in your mind.
If you don't tell me how, I can't do anything ! For me (and I think it's not just me) it really looks like Federer's backhand, especially ingame.
The acceleration version of my backhand looks very similar with the one at 0:23
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhne6BWVfH4

Find something wrong and I'll change it...The only thing you were right about is the distance between the feets...as I told you, I tried to make it larger (even at the beginning) but I can't because of the sweetspot...I could make it but only by moving first the right foot and then the left in the preparation...that's not federer-esque at all :)

@Manutoo

What are the exact sweetspot values for forehand volley...in your animation it's not so clear

Re: Information about Animations & Creating them

Postby Lucian86 » 09 Oct 2012, 12:59

Do you think I didn't try to see that ? :)

The issue is that the sweetspot is at frame 15.2....I can see the racquet position at frame 15 only so it means that I have to approximate the values...I asked you because I want it to have a clear range of values...don't you have it in your code somewhere ?

later edit: Anyhow, I selected 100fps and the hitting point should be at the frame 51...X value is more or less like a normal forehand....the y value though is below -3,5 (unlike all other rally strikes)...it's ok like that ?

Lucian86,
Y position doesn't have any influence on the gameplay, it's purely visual ; so up to you to think it's ok or not... ;)

@Manutoo

1. About the "regular" and "acceleration" versions of animations....When you start the preparation for a "regular" animation and you decide to switch to the "acceleration" shot a few instants before the hitting point, there's a little issue that happens only with the CPU player. It seems like there's a slippage between the two animations which sets the player a little bit higher from the ground (like he was jumping)....the same thing it's not happening with my player that I control where the transition is smooth as it should be- Anyway I made a video for a better understanding:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNXOGqTxoxI
From 0 to 0:22 in the upper screen there's the CPU player and you can clearly see the issue

From 0:22 to the end there's my player that I control (also in the upper screen)....everything is fine (of course, there's a little jump but that's part of the animation process)

2. About the volley's sweet spots. I created new volley animations (which I hope to release soon...waiting for the update, you know :) ) and I realized that with a higher x-value on the sweetspot the volley is definetely more controllable. The forehand volley in particular, I assigned a 13,7 x value while your animation had 10,7 more or less. I might be wrong, who knows..maybe it's just in my head but I definetely feel that it's a lot better now (which is great since you know, I already suggested to you in the past to improve this)
I've sent you a PM with .anim file to prove it yourself

3. Could you make the player not to follow the ball in the returnwaiting animation ? (you know, the isse that we discusse a couple of days ago)

Lucian86,
1. yup, something's wrong, maybe it's coz of separate leg anim ; I'll look more into this for next Build.

2. I tried your new anim, it kinda feels more or less the same, so I guess it's a matter of taste... :thinking:

3. Not sure, I'll think about it, but I like the returner looking to his opponent during that phase

for fh the SS is :
x = -11.6 / -11.2 ; z = 12.4 / 12.8
I upload two pics with the description
why this happen?
