Have you tried the simple way, getting it directly from a match video frame? Maybe using the Magic Wand?
If that doesn't work, one thing that could work is to create two little spheres superimposed, one bigger than the other. Blur both a little and put the smaller at the center of the bigger one. Then, reduce the opacity of the bigger sphere. I quickly tried here and got this (just ignore the background, focus on the yellow ball lol):
I think the result is not that bad. Maybe with a little more editing you can improve it.
