I think that the more you develop your idea of two seasons, the better it gets. However, I still think we should keep the one season format and tweak it.

Ttennisfan, I would say that if you have an opinion, give your arguments for or against it. Bashing down someone else's opinion is always very easy (the complete internet is full of it), but try to keep comments in such a way that people actually can do something with it.

I agree fully with Togt: the 2nd calendar is a lot better than the first as well as the maximum entries limitation. But Im also staying in favour of 1 season.

edit: also, would it be possible to add a week for Davis Cup / Team cup? If you want to hang on to the 2 season, and you dont want an extra week you can have people choose if they wanna play Davis Cup or normal tourney. I would advise 4 singles matches for a rubber then (and if 2-2 and sets won is equal a pre-determined 5th match as you have in teamcup now)

@tog: what exactly do you mean by 'tweaking' it?

@elikian: davis cup in tennis elbow is something that first needs to be defined. last season we tried something that didn't work out. so now we will have to come up with the new idea for the team cup. i don't think we will reserve only one week for it, as it is impossible to play it that way (like in RL). so i think we will first wait and see how the season and tournaments are progressing, what number of players are participating etc., because that is the only way to come up with the new idea for the team cup.

and also, i want to know your reasons for favoring 1 season :) what are advantages of 1 season?

@ro.fed: you are really annoying with your comments. would you please stop making fun of ours idea with no arguments at all? at least once, say something useful

From now on, every post, where are major arguments words like stupid, bullshit...etc, in this topic will be treated as spam and will be deleted.

Let's make useful debate, and not destroying topic that is of great importance for tournaments.

Team cup is pretty difficult to implement...and like stuey said it depends on many things. So it's something that we'll decide and inform you during the season. Right now there are more important issues.

PS. Elikian why don't you add me to MSN so that we can talk 1on1, to see all your ideas and comments.

I say for a Davis Cup, make it be each round takes place during the time of slams. Since slams are two weeks there will be plenty of time to play extra matches. Plus if you lose 1st round and your team is alive in the DC then it keeps you playing matches.

As we already said, we'll probably put smaller tournaments in the second weeks of grand slams, so it wouldn't really matter when davis cup (khm, maybe 'team cup' is more accurate name of it :) ) will be played. But I guess there are more important things to be discussed about at the moment, so we'll concentrate on the team cup once the season starts and some tournaments are finished ;)

Hi Tscott:

The reason ATP only count 5 tournaments is to protect and prevent people from over-playing too many 3rd or small tier tours, which is unfair to others.

Hi Stuey, Blacky, and everyone,

Actually, based on what I read, I still think that following the real ATP tour calendar is the best solution. But, let me say that your idea of 2 seasons is not bad. However, I think it still needs to be worked on. For example:

1) Since we only have half a year to play the season, we can play many small tours (besides the 4 Grand slams and 9 Master Series). But, we need to only count the best 3 small tourns.
2) If we choose to keep the 08 rankings and rollover to 09, how can we implement the "defending points" systems in 09? :?

1) Why only the best 3?

2) If we choose to keep last season's Entry Rankings and to go with 2 seasons per year, then we would count the last 26 weeks for Entry Rankings ;) So I will erase all points older then 26 weeks, and we'll start the new season with such rankings :)

Yugioh:

I know why they only count five. Its just this is not the ATP tour and everyone plays practically every week so counting only 3 would be pointless and make it all about the big tournies.

Stuey:

I love the idea for the rankings. I had the same concern that the defending points would not work. But i like what your idea is.

Here is the answer:

We continue to follow the ATP schedule because that is way cooler (who wants to play the US Open in May?). But in order to keep rankings fresh and allow new players to rise quicker, we have points on a 26 week cycle instead of a 52 week. For example, US Open points will go away in March, six months after the US Open. So at certain times there will be no points for anyone counted for half the tournaments.

It's the only way I can see to make it fair for new players. As someone who got into the circuit fairly late, I found it incredibly hard to get good draws for a long time. I kept drawing high seeds in the first or second round, and didn't get good draws until I made a big move at a big tournament, which was lucky timing for me. It needs to be easier to break in.

i like that idea, it's like a mix of both, we will have just 6 month counting for ranking(but, what if we have to defend a GS on an ATP 250's week?) and we could keep the real atp schedule
