lololol, fine, ur opinion is fine and valid. however, in reality, Karlovic has a better serve, which is plain to see if u watch any of his matchs, in which his first serve is virtually unreturnable, where as federers while being incredibly good, just cant match that

I think a good way to put it is like this: what would Federer be like if he had Karlovic's serve? The answer there would be that he probably wouldn't have lost a match in his career. And give Dr. Ivo Federer's? He wouldn't be an intimidating force anymore, and he sure as heck wouldn't be able to hold as easily as he usually does.

First of all, Richou and Togt, I NEVER said that Federer had the best serve...I was simply responding to Gavbo's statement about others' opinion of Fed's backhand...

Seems we may have gotten a little off-topic there for the moment...

For the record, after further consideration, while it's NOT my opinion that Fed has the BEST serve, the BEST backhand, the BEST volley, or even the BEST forehand...It IS my opinion that he's had the best total PACKAGE (cetainly among active players) and it's what has kept him at the top of the game for so many years...

Maybe we should start a topic about what any of the above strokes have done to further enhance players rankings and/or careers...(think #1 rankings and Grand-Slam titles 8-))

Federer definitely has NOT got the best serve...Karlovic and Roddick have much better serves. Federer may have the most skillful(placement, spins) serve however in terms of efficiency there are better serves. Just imagine if Federer had Roddick's serve, nobody could ever touch him. lol

how people can you say that federer had the best serve ?
if it was true he should win more service game than Karlovic and Roddick cause he is better on the baseline .

it's 50 and it's not so great for 38 service games .
Federer had a great serve but he's just not the best .
Tsonga got a better one too

Put it this way, on ATPtennis.com they quizzed a couple of tennis players, and almost everyone said that they hated to play Dr.Ivo because theyre left feeling helpless against his serve.

Isner might be better off the ground, but his serve is simply an inferior version of Dr. Ivo's (his 2nd might be better though).
