Australian Open 2009 (ATP)

Postby Togtdyalttai » 22 Nov 2008, 01:06

Who's gonna win the first Grand Slam of the new year? Will Djokovic repeat, will Federer win his 4th in 5 years, will Nadal win his first Slam on a hardcourt, or will a newcomer burst onto the scene?

I took Federer here. Although he didn't look good in the last couple months, he really got back on track at the US Open and I think he'll continue that trend at the Aussie.

If Murray plays the tennis he is capable of he is the best player on a hard court so I think he has a very good chance. Djokovic has been poor after Nadal beat him at Queens club so he doesnt stand a chance. Whoever wins the semi between Murray and Federer will win it imo.

Also you can never count out JC Ferrero

And back to normal... :P

Anybody watched Nadal vs Verdasco ?
It took them to reach the 5th set & almost 5 hours of play to begin to strike the ball a bit less strongly...
The TV commentator couldn't stop saying "it's magical" when they were still running all around...
I'm a bit afraid that it's the same magic than in athleticism & cycling... :?
Especially coz Verdasco said his new physical strength comes from his training with the physical trainer of Agassi, which shown the most dubious physical performances in his late years, looking younger & fresher than in his 20's...
And Nadal, hum, I guess everybody already noticed he's never never tired... (at least, not before 5 hours of totally intense play)

It was a great match, but not much sure it was a clean one... :?

Yes, it was the longest match. Lopez-Muller in the 1st round had a timing problem and they added like an hour and 10 minutes to the actual time. So this one beats out the 2nd place match (Becker vs. someone in 1994 I think) by 3 minutes. Of course it's still over an hour behind Santoro-Clement at the 2004 French.
