So, the current setup has shot preparation animation when player takes backward steps as seen in the pictures. Is it possible to have similar animation for the forward steps or lateral steps?

no, it's just an orientation for the movement.

It would be great if we could have the same orientation for forward footsteps. As you can see, the player seems to be walking while hitting the forehand instead of taking footsteps with orientation like the backward motion. Here's an example of Nadal's forward footstpes:

I don't have animations like in the video you have linked.

I have one with some small steps though, maybe I'll give it a try someday.
