Regenerated players - what is and isn't inherited?

Postby holt77 » 25 Jun 2025, 02:02

Hi,

I've tried to do a little bit of testing with this, but can I just check with regenerated players, what is inherited from the parent player and what isn't?

As far as I can tell...

Inherited

Nationality
Height and weight
Career trajectory, ranking timeline (roughly)?

Random, not inherited

Name and appearance
Playing style
Skills distribution
Talents

Is that correct?

----------------------------------

Also, one more quick question that probably doesn't need its own thread. When using ZonePlayer in the Tour.ini file, is it possible to set it as two or more zones, or will it only work for one zone?

Ah, so the quality of the player should be at random? I tested by adding a new player from a country that didn't have any other players, and gave that player RankPerYear that eventually took them to number 1 in the world. Four years before they retired, a new player from that country was generated as a junior. Eventually that player also got to number one in the world, although it took them a bit longer, so I wasn't sure if the quality of the new player roughly matches the original one.

The BestRank is taken randomly amongst all the players retiring that year. And I just noticed the SingleDouble was copied from the inherited player instead of the random BestRank player, so this will be fixed in the next update, thanks to your question..! :blackeye:
(this may mean there are likely too many new Singles #1 players in the fictional years :fear: )

I had noticed that in the early stages of fictional years, the early regens seem to have a high likelihood of being good, but I just put it down to there being a large number of players with high BestRank numbers retiring in the early years. It's one of the reasons I want to add more low rank players to the data before I start playing.

Is SingleDouble something that is meant to be copied from the retiring player to the regen? Part of my data mod is going to be making more of the high-ranking doubles specialists a 1 for SingleDouble, so that they don't win major singles titles and climb the singles rankings.

Also, when a regen is assigned a BestRank from a random retiring player, does that also come with any other stats from the retiring player, or is everything else (playing style, skills etc.) still completely random?

Thanks again for answering all my questions. Recently rediscovered the series after playing TE13 many years ago, and you've done an amazing job with TE4.

BestRank has to be interpreted according to SingleDouble, so both should be copied to the same generated player. Everything not listed above is random.

And thanks for the praise. :jap:

That's good to know, thanks.

When I finish updating the Players file with current players, I'm hoping to have anything up to 1500 players in my 2024 starting pool, of which around 250 might be exclusively doubles players (SingleDouble set to 1). Is that likely to cause any issues? There should still be more than 1000 singles players at any given time to fill tournaments, and none of the singles players will be -1, so filling doubles tournaments shouldn't be an issue either.

If BestRank and SingleDouble are inherited together by regens, I guess that also means the pool size of exclusive doubles players should remain constant. My aim is to have the high-ranked doubles players only taking part in doubles tournaments.
