Suggestion : masking the drop shot

Postby Jirafalox » 05 Mar 2025, 13:47

Hi manu, i was thinking that now pro players always use the dropshot with a disguise before the actual shot, like prepping a forehand and then doing the drop shot. This can be made in the game but if you disguise to the last second, the drop shot is super high and long, so its super risky to do the swap of button to do the disguise, when actually pros when they do it normally the drop shots its a "normal" drop shot that lands short, they dont compromise drop shot quality for the disguise. There is a chance that you can do the same interaction that the normal and topspin shots have (holding one then changing to another mid prep doesnt affect precision) to the normal shot --> drop shot ???(can be any shot, accel or whatever, you get the idea) idk if i explained myself correctly, but all im trying to say if it can be implemented the feint that all top players are doing now since alcaraz showed up (quick edit.: or maybe that you lose like 30-50% precision for doing the feint so its more fair for the other player, but still not that risky vs a normal drop shot) (Edit 2.: I'm always refering to the 1 handed forehand and 2 handed shots, with the one handed backhand is not necesary)

Hello,

right now, the drop shot is always at least a bit masked as it shares the anim with the slice, so the opponent doesn't know if it's going to be a drop or a slice.

Morever, online, because of the lag, the masking might last till the very impact with the ball, so it could get too effective, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea, although I like it at least for offline play...

The solution would be to have a dedicated drop shot anim that includes the caching. However, it'd be generic and thus might differ from the assigned normal strike anim, and thus the masking would be actually quite revealing... :blackeye:

well, at least the dedicated drop shot anim could be modded so modders can do like an Alcaraz fh drop with the disguise and you can use the alcaraz fh and the same for more players.

if it has to be a generic drop shot animation that can't be modded, then maybe you can do a poll to add it as a feature, at least it would be more visually pleasing to see the fh drop shot with a generic disguise than the fh slice animation for the drop shot

or idk if its possible to like reduce the % of precision by like half by doing it manually changing the shot button like I said originally, so even if you hold it till like 0.3 seconds before the shot is made, the lets say 50% precision decrease would be fair (right now i can do disguises like this in only against high level players but it only works if they guess to one side and i manage to hit the drop to the other side, but in this case even a 90 km/h shot to that direction would be a winner anyway, in any other case they get the ball super easy because of the low quality drop shot change at the last second)

I cannot allow the change of strike : as explained above, in some cases, your opponent would only see the regular anims coz of the delay, and thus it'd be completely unfair and unbalanced.

For the dedicated drop shot anim, maybe I'll do it in the future.

oh i didnt think it worked like that, then yeah nothing to be done there. Hopefully you can integrate a new anim in the future, maybe with the mo cap it's a bit easier?
