How to perform this shot ? [+ Recommended Dead Zone ?]

Postby REY_ZIDANE » 16 Jan 2025, 20:00

Hello, I would like to know how to perform this shot. It’s a slice, but strong and sharp.

On the other hand, do you recommend touching the dead zone while aiming?

thanks

Hello,

1) That player might have the Slice Mastery talent

2) You should make the Aiming Dead Zone as small as possible but still avoid going to the right when you release pressing left (and vice versa) ; try with the Aiming preview on to see what's going on

Hi Manu. Can you further explain how to fine tune the controller dead zone. There are two dead zone settings, one for movement and the second for aiming?

When you install the game fresh, the dead zones are set by default to 20 (movement) and 30 (aiming). However, if you click the “default” button in the controller settings page, they change to 35 (movement) and 50 (aiming). So which of the two is actually the default setting? Also, I find both sets of settings to be high in my opinion.

Finally, compared to TE2013, I find it very difficult to hit the side lines no matter how much I practice in warm up, which is why I want to start fiddling with the controller dead zones. By the way, I play on Xbox Series X.

EH008,
1) thanks for pointing out the discrepancy : I changed both initial & default settings to 30/45.

The idea there is not to propose the best setting (which would be 0 or 5 if your controller is perfectly calibrated), but to give a default setting avoiding issues with poorly-calibrated controllers, so newcomers can play the game with as few headaches as possible. :blackeye:

2) The Aiming Zone is noticeably bigger in TE4 compared to TE2013, and it was a goal of TE4 to avoid painting the lines too often, as it's more realistic like that. You could switch to Arcade controls which boost the Precision (but also lower the ball difficulty), making the controls close enough to TE2013's ones.

Hi Manu. So best setting would be 0/0 or 5/5 right? I mean do you recommend setting both dead zones to the same value or prefer the aiming dead zone to be higher? I see that you always have the aiming dead zone higher by 10 to 15 points. Is there a reason behind that?

By the way, on another game, I set my left stick dead zone to 15% to correct the stick drift my controller has. However, in TE4, I can set the dead zones to 0/0 and I don’t experience any problems. Are you sure the setting is working properly on Xbox :)?

The Aiming Dead zone is bigger because if you have a stick snapback ( = it goes a bit to the right when you release left, and vice versa), then it's very penalizing when you aim (it'll destroy your aim), while it's not much of an issue when running.

I think 0% is really working correctly (it was bugged 1 or 2 years ago, but it was for big values, IIRC ':D ).
