Tips about giving angle to the ball

Postby dimcoe » 03 Aug 2024, 01:35

Hi, in need of tips once again...

I've been struggling to give the desired angle to the ball, especially in three situations:

- when I move so as to avoid the backhand and want to do an inside-out forehand: it almost always ends up going very central, rather than, well, inside out
- when I'm moving forward on a short ball and want to go for an angled cross-court: also almost always goes rather central (which typically means I lose the point, as I find myself vulnerable at the net)
- when I use long accelerations: I seem to be able to imprint good angle only when I wait very late until pressing the acceleration button, but then it becomes a short acceleration, rather than the deep one I want.

This happens even when I have time and seem to be very well-positioned to hit the ball. I activated the aiming indicator to see what's going on and for many of those shots it's like the aim hits a wall and doesn't let me go farther to the side no matter how long I prepare the shot. Any idea of what I may be doing wrong?

Hello,

what you describe sounds very strange.

You play with a controller on Xbox, right ?

Normally, the earlier you press left/right, the farther you'll send the ball to the left/right. If you prepare at the last instant, the Aiming Zone can get huge and thus the ball can go a bit anywhere on the court.

But in no case the Aiming Zone should stop to move. Either it goes on to the left/right, or it goes back quickly to the center. Maybe you have an issue with your analog stick ? Do you have any issues when you run ?

Did you try to aim in the Warm-up mode, where you have plenty of time to prepare your strike (ie: on the 1st strike) ?

Maybe try to fiddle with Settings -> Controls -> Player 1 -> Aiming Dead Zone.

Thanks! I'll try those things, good to know that I should move the diagnosis away from me and to the controller and the configuration instead ;)

Update: changed the aiming dead zone to 10% (it was at 30% before), and what a difference! I have much more control now, feels so much better (and so many more close-to-the-line balls!) :)
