What are the icons when I hit a bad shot?

Postby Bahnzo » 09 Jul 2024, 22:35

Noticing these and I don't know what they mean, other than I know I hit a poor shot and I assume they are trying to tell me something about why.

Unrelated, but what do people do when they begin moving up skill-wise? Is it good to turn off some of the movement assists (I don't think I'm using the footwork one)? Turn off the visual aids? Or simply keep creeping up the CPU skill?

Hello,

1) Green = you hit the ball at the correct distance from your body ; Orange = a bit too far ; Red = way too far (ie: it tells you if your left/right positioning was correct or not)

2) My recommendation : switch to Average Auto-Pos very quickly, and turn off the Aiming Preview as soon as you can. The Danger Zone is needed to get a better sense of the ball bounce, so I recommend keeping it, but many people turn it off because they think it's bad for the immersion (you have more discreet Danger Zone in Settings -> 3D Match).
The Footwork Boost is meant to compensate for a natural lack of reflexes, so it makes senses to keep it forever, but if you don't use it now, it means you're alright. :thumbleft:

Ok, but then why the need for the green one, if I was positioned properly? Is this a way to tell me I was in the right place, but did something else wrong?

Really enjoying the game so far. I'm not even a tennis fan, but the gameplay is so well done.

If you play without the Danger Zone or just didn't see clearly where you were standing on it when you hit the ball, the icon will let you know about your left/right positioning. If it's green, it means it was your forward/backward positioning that was wrong and/or that you didn't prepare early your strike.

And I'm glad you enjoy the game..!

So, just so I'm clear:

The feedback icons provide insight on left/right position.
Danger zone provides a preview on ball bounce so green is positioned correctly on the bounce.

So, if I mishit a shot and I was positioned in the green danger zone, and the icon is red - that means that I was good on the bounce, but I was too far from the ball?

ACepero79,
it means you were too far on left/right, yes.

Hi! I am enjoying TE4 quite a lot, but wanted to let you know my thoughts on this matter.

In my experience, there are some balls that were easy that I've missed, the game gave me the green circle and it just seemed a bit arbitrary. I get it that in real tennis this happens, but usually the player did something wrong. It feels odd doing everything right and still missing.

Unless I was doing something wrong, the game just did not communicate to me correctly. I found that having the green icon that indicates that you are in a good position a bit confusing given that only after reading this post that I learned that it only means I am in a good forward/backwards position, not in a good lateral position, right?

Please let me know if I understood everything correctly, this game takes a very unique approach to timing, focus on positioning and there is not a lot of content that explains in-depth the mechanics (I did read Documentation in its entirety).

Kasonicastro,
the green icon = correctly positioned on left/right ; so your problem was on up/down and/or your strike was prepared too late. Difficult strikes (eg: accelerations) can still have a chance to go out even with a long preparation.

Thanks for the clarification!

I also have a question about the timing mechanic when aiming. I know it's important not to release the button and to prepare the shot as early as possible for better accuracy. But when it comes to aiming, is there any advantage to pressing the analog stick at a specific time to ensure I'm still holding it in the correct direction when making contact with the ball?

Kasonicastro,
Yes, if you release left/right too early, the aiming zone returns very quickly to the center, causing you to lose a lot of precision in your strike. (plus if you play online, the result won't be the same => https://www.managames.com/tennis/doc/Te ... meCreation )
