Should i buy this?

Postby victorb » 02 Jul 2024, 14:34

Hello,

i'm a long time follower, since the early tennis elbow versions (2006 maybe?) and i'm a bit dissapointed at the "4" demo, to the point i did not feel like purchasing it since it does not feel any better than the 2013. The animations on the demo are very awkward, specially the backhand where it feels the player has no bones and a rubbery arm. One thing that really annoys me since forever is when a ball is very far but you can still touch it, but there is NOTHING you can do to get that ball back to the other side. Pushing no buttons and just going for the run always ends with a weak shot to the net. If you try to push any shot buttons the player will decelerate and not get to the ball on time. There should be something to sometimes get that ball back with a very high lob! This is very unrealistic and has been frustrating me since 2015 or something and should've been long addressed. I suggested this countless times in many topics here. I wonder if i buy the full version and dive into the modding world it will be a better game than 2013. So my point is: how far is this from a version you would call "finished"? I see you are working on ports, but the game still needs so much work under the hood. Does the full version feel better than 2013? Or myu frustrations with the demo will remain?

Cheers

Hello,

1) The 1-handed backhand in the demo is nearly identical to the TE2013 Backhand #2.

2) When you hit the ball with the frame, indeed you cannot put it back in play. If you touch it with the strings, then if you are correctly positioned you still have a good chance to play it. This works the same way in TE2013... (in 2015 TE4 still didn't exist :blackeye:)

3) I never consider my games finished, it's only me who is finished with them (ie: it's always possible to add new stuff). TE4 has been superior to TE2013 for at least 2 years now : it's noticeably more realistic and has many more features (big & small).

Thank you for the reply.

Based on your answer number "2", the way you decided to be ironic and not give me a decent reply, yes, i'm not going to buy this anytime soon. This situation happens extremely often in 2013 and TE04 and should not be happening anymore. Just watch any match and you'll see dozens of defensive shots on the stretch with a high and/or weak ball. In TE there are none.

My answer wasn't ironic, I just listed the different cases when you hit a ball that is far from you.

There are a lot more weak & high balls on TE4 than in TE2013 ; for example on TE4, with a well-placed serve, you'll regularly get a weak return, which never happened in TE3. A last instant slice will also produce such kind of balls, which again wasn't the case in TE3.

You also have the sliding and the stretching anims in TE4, absent from TE3.

It's quite possible it's still less frequent than in real-life, but TE4 is much more realistic than TE2013 on this point.
