Questions about AI

Postby GeneralZod » 15 May 2024, 19:33

How advanced is the in game AI, for example if im being very successful with serves up the middle or out wide more often, will the AI player recognise this and guess or move early that way, in a way that if i dont mix it up, i will be at a disadvantage, so does mixing serves up help, or is the AI not taking any note of this at all?

Is this the same for how they serve/general groundstrokes, i.e. its struggling from the back court so may come to the net more often etc?

Is the AI this advanced, id like to think so, or actually one point has no relation to the next?

Hello,

no, the AI is not that much advanced, except for the net rush : it analyzes its current success ratio and uses it to modulate its decision process.

Sorry about hijacking this post

Did you ever try to experiment with expanding this AI logic for rallies/serve/return? For if the Player has hit a couple of BH errors AI will try to force backhand more in the next couple of rallies, and as OP suggested dynamic serving pattern. I think this is a good idea to overall enhance gameplay, coupled with perhaps a "tactical flexibility" attribute that will indicate how much will AI take into account this data. I assume this will take some performance hit.

Remains,
the current "half-random" AI works relatively well, and making the AI smarter could lead to delicate issues and require a lot of time to get to a satisfying result without annoying edge cases.
The net rush decision is relatively simple and integrates easily a success ratio parameter to modulate its result.
