Am I not good or is the game too hard?

Postby kwaidan8 » 02 Dec 2023, 10:54

Hi! Not sure I understood everything regarding the tournaments and character levels and I can't win a single game or even play.
I completed all the training sessions, customized my controls, when I practice in matches against the AI with my character I won all the games after raising the level 3-4 times when the popup window asks to do so.

Now I wanted to move to the career mode and try some tournaments and can't even respond to the other player and I believe I'm not understanding something about players' levels maybe? I started with players of the same level as me and it was just impossible to play. I then tried to lower the level of the opponent gradually, since at the start I wanted to play a career where my player would grow so I started with a bad ranking. Right now, after about 12 matches in different levels, I'm playing with my character in master level, ranking 30, with all the skills set at 100%, and competing in a Pro tournament. Before each game, from what I understand, you can also lower the level of the opponent. I'm setting "club" or "junior". Yesterday I competed against a player who had skills ranging from 10% to 50% and I could just not play. I'm not hitting the ball wrong, the opponent was just placing super fast balls ON THE LINES on each hit. That doesn't seem like a player with 25% average skills? The only time I won a game I don't know how in this same tournament in the other qualification round I played against a tiny baby player.

I believe I'm using the controls correctly, I keep the control pressed down, I only slightly change the direction towards the end of the movement, I only use hard hits when the player is correctly placed. I'm also a tennis player so I think I'm also using the strategy correctly. I don't complain about the game being realistic. I'm aware that if the other player places a service at 200 km/h on the line, or I'm running in the opposite direction of the ball, there's nothing to be done. But here the problem is the opponent seems to be perfect and super strong no matter the level I set?

Am I not understanding something? Is this normal and I'll get better? I got interested in this game for the career mode and I'd love to be able to play with a character that starts from lower rankings and grows, but here it seems I can start playing decently just with a top 30 ranked character against little kids...

BTW another question I'm also a little confused about where the careers end up. I created 4-5 careers and characters so far, trying different levels, and played 1-2 games with each of them, but when I click on "load" under career mode, I only see my last two characters. I had created a junior character who didn't qualify in the first tournament, but it doesn't show in the games I can load. I know you can save the character to the training mode, but can a career just disappear? How do I access all my characters? I'd love to resume for example that game if one day I get better and I want to play with that junior character but don't know how to find it anymore.

Thanks everyone I really like the design and gameplay of TE4 and I want to continue playing but I'm feeling really lost here :?

Hello,

1) When you choose "Master" difficulty when starting a new career, it means your opponent will have the Master level (and thus will be very strong), but as you have noticed you can easily change that later on. The level also determines the amount of XP & Skills you start with.

2) If you already beat your Training Club opponent after having raised several times its level, and you set your opponent to Club level in the World Tour, then you should definitively have the skills to beat him. Could you send me a Bug Report from a match where a weak opponent feels too strong so I could look in detail at your settings ? (HowTo => topic5-31732.php )

3) When you start a new career, you lose your current one if you didn't manually save it. I just added "This will overwrite your current career" in the warning pop-up for the next update.
