Since the issues I first felt in March, I feel like one of three things is wrong:

1. The arcade controls are broken.
2. The controller deadzone settings are broken.
3. My controller is broken.

The game just feels different compared to before.

1) I didn't change the Arcade controls for a while

2) The Deadzone wasn't working correctly and has been fixed in a recent update ; you have to tune it again if you feel the new setting doesn't fit your controller

Could you explain what was wrong with the deadzone, what was changed, and when? I didn't see anything about the deadzone in the update notes.

4) For reference, I've always played with 0% deadzone and it feels like the game doesn't read my inputs the same as before (which makes sense if the deadzone was changed). But what confuses me is that it's not just reading my inputs to a further extreme, it's changing them. For example, if I try to hit a powerful serve up the T, I push the analog stick left or right, I don't push it in any other direction. Historically (if my aim is good) this would lead to the serve going straight up the T. Now, when I try to do this, there's a slice applied to spin it in, as if I'd applied slice but I haven't. I'm not an expert but I don't think the deadzone has anything to do with that?

2) Ouch, I had forgotten to write about the Deadzone change in the v0.83 !

I just added that to the ChangeLog :

- Controls : the Dead Zone was half the value shown, and thus the maximum possible Dead Zone was less than 50%

If you had the DeadZone at 95% before, you should set it to 45 or 50% now.

If you had 0%, then you should set it back to 0% in the Controls (if not already done) ; it should be the same as before.


4) If you didn't change the default controls, then adding slice is done with up, so yes the DeadZone can play a role there ; if you push the analog stick just a bit up when you aim left/right then with 0% Deadzone, you'll add slice right away ; if you have the Deadzone at 40%, then it won't add slice. So I'd recommend you to try to play with a Deadzone somewhere between 30 & 60% ; pick the lowest value that allows you to serve without adding slice.

Ahh that would explain why the game still felt different after the slice refinement and drop shot fix!

I'll try adjusting the dead zone and see what happens, thanks

I felt the same i was playing controller. But i feel deadzone was strange sometimes and i couldn't direct the ball quite easily. Now i started to playing with keyboard after my controller stops working:) and acting weird.

At first moving was more difficult but hitting is much more smooth and i direct the ball easily close to corners. I feel game is much easier with keyboard. Despite i played for 1 year with controller i believe already i'm playing better with keyboard on my first tries. Is the issue solved completely about deadzone? My controller doesn't work correctly i tried to change deadzone from 40 to 80 but i didn't feel difference so i'm not sure. Is it fine now?

I'm playing with my Xbox One Controller without any issues.
I didn't get report about issues except Guest233's so I guess there's no widespread problem...
