Green Errors

Postby KINGBARBOZA » 04 Oct 2022, 07:29

Hi Manutoo,

Was just wondering what caused green errors in TE4. It's been happening a lot to me and it seems to be completely random, I've attached a video of hitting 5 green errors in 2 games. If possible could you explain the reasoning for these errors? Are they RNG based? Or maybe some sort of positioning error despite the danger zone indicating green position?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Errors #1, 4 & 5 : you aimed too close to the lines while the aiming zone was too big and partly out ; in such a case, as the ball can land anywhere in the green zone, you took the risk to make the ball fault ; the RNG let them out in these cases, in some other cases, they'd have ended in.

Errors #2 & 3 : these ones are less clear, but I think it's almost same : you didn't prepare early enough and the aiming zone was still quite big ; in such a case, the ball has a small chance to end outside of the aiming zone. In both cases, aiming less close to the lines would have prevented the fault.

Interesting. I would have thought there was a positioning error or something more specific I was doing wrong. Guess just terrible luck these 2 games

It's possible that you also slightly decentered the ball, but not enough to get an orange warning. :fear:

I had forgotten one important thing (and possibly some other less important ones, that's why it's better to also send a Bug Report showing the players in this case) : maybe your player has a too low Focus, which means you have to prepare your strike very early to avoid having such a big aiming zone.

The latest version now shows that in the Character Sheet, but it still didn't make its way to the XKT Patch.

Slow auto-pos could probably lead to a similar result ; quite low precisions as well ; maybe the Elite controls too ; etc..

The focus for his player the [(speed + muscle tone) / 2] + 2 or 3 as with every player on that roster. So the strike preparation should be quick enough and also its simulation controls and average autopos.

Hi Manutoo,

Here is a clip from a set I played today just getting repeated nonsensical green errors.
A lot of them seem to be out of the circle too.
This is ridiculous and happens too often.
I went from MP to almost losing because of these weird errors.
Just wanted your thoughts on what could be done.

(this is free mode with preset characters. Also did a bug report for these shots)

KINGBARBOZA,
thanks to your Bug Reports, I found a couple of issues :
- the main one is that indeed the ball can end outside the aiming zone, even on strike prepared early enough ; it's a bad bug that will be fixed in the next update, or the one after (I already fixed it but it'll also require to rebalance the AI and possibly the gameplay too  )
- the 2nd one is that the more the acceleration is powerful, the more the precision lowers ; this loss might be a tad too strong, especially with a low Topspin skill (the player you had selected has only 20% in Topspin), as the margin over the net is smaller than with higher topspin skills ; I'll have to give some thoughts and test a lot to tune that, so it'll probably have to wait a few weeks :fear:

So the point at 5/4 is from both these 2 issues, and the 3 points in the Tie-break are about the 1st one only ; although, even with the fix, 2 of them might still end out, as the aiming zone was partly outside the court lines.

KINGBARBOZA,
yup, that's why I always ask for Bug Reports, so I can reproduce and (hopefully) fix the bugs..!

Hi Manu, think it's bugged again, getting errors like this shot here. a long preparation and aimed well in the court. any other reason I could be missing?

I got your previous Bug Report (on July 26th) where the ball was just a bit out of the green zone (IIRC).

There, it's significantly outside but I didn't get a Bug Report so I cannot check what happened exactly... :fear:

I don't think I made any change in the physics in the last couple updates, though...

I got & checked your Bug Report : you just got very unlucky. Indeed, if you don't prepare your acceleration very early, you have a small chance that your player loses control of the ball and that it ends longer than expected. Sometimes it can be for your advantage (ie: when it stays in the court and get longer) and sometimes not, like in the present case. :fear:
