Racket rating

Postby xitrum1902 » 27 Aug 2022, 14:13

Hello Manutoo,
There's something I'm curious about, that there's no racket rating/type like Virtua Tennis or Top Spin.
Is it difficult to code something like that in 2013 or 4? :?:

Hello,

there are 3 rackets : Midsize, Midplus, Oversize.

It's a visual change only, though.

And I don't know what are the "racket rating/type like Virtua Tennis or Top Spin". What do they do ?

In Virtua Tennis 3, each racket has a different stat that you can unlock from beating players. They can be all-around, power, control, spin, or net. There are even joke rackets like wooden or frying pan. I don't think Top Spin has that though.

In real life, it doesn't make much sense : the players play with the racket they are comfortable with ; they would not change of racket to get some extra bonus. Federer did a change of racket from Midsize to MidPlus (IIRC), so he'd get more sweetspot tolerance for his backhand, but that's pretty much of it.

I'm well aware of that. What I meant is that no rackets are the same as you said the players play what they're used to and I wonder if there's any way to reflect the racket they're using.

As it's mostly about a feeling in the body, I don't see how it could be simulated in an interesting & realistic way in a game... :fear:

It does sound pretty complicated to input in a game that already has a lot of progress since 1997. Thanks for answering my curiosity.
