Player Style Balancing

Postby NNUE » 01 May 2022, 14:25

Once again thanks for this fantastic game Manuto. Idk if this is a right thread to talk about but i want to say few things. Played more than 100 hour so far.
Despite being very realistic I think the game is a bit too much supporting the attacking players, styles for me. (also you said that i think)
I didn't play TE 2013 just heard and see in that game rallies are much longer maybe ad to defenders etc. I think this game is more close to the reality but even on clay rallies are much shorter(i don't think in real life its that short) and defending looks very difficult to me. Grass is almost unplayable for me(btw this is okey should be like that) Maybe 2 type of grass court one slower like second week wimbledon we see would be better. I don't think nobody plays grass so not much important for me.

As far as i see with defender even on clay its almost useless. Usually attacking players styles had advantage even on clay. When i use high top spin they can still crush the ball most of the times despite the ball going deep to the backhand sometimes. Anyway this maybe they are pro to me.

Idk if it is possible to tune, adjust gameplay on clay or some styles like defending get boosts.

NNUE,
you posted that on the wrong topic, so I just moved it to its own topic.

Is it for online play or against the CPU ?

Clay rally length seems fine to me, at least for CPU vs CPU, and top online players. What is your usual average rally length on clay ?

Against CPU (offline), I can win rallies easily in less than 5 strokes..just like on grass. I can serve and volley easily on clay too.

knich,
against what difficulty level are you playing ?

I have noticed that the CPU is probably a tad weaker than it should be passing-wise.

Ok, I guess the surface might have more influence once you reach ~70% in your skills. Under 50%, it's expectable that it matters less.

Do you mean if HUM player skills are less than 70% you can beat players easily at Master 5 whose skills are great than 70%?

I had not played since ver .57. I think it is more competitive since this update. But I still don't think it is competitive enough.

If the equivalent of pro tennis in real life is supposed to be pro level 10, then I can dominate the pro game. Against a Master 10 CPU with about 80% (haven't tested higher %) I can dominate or be very competitive with HUM skills either around 50% or around 80%. There is not enough variance in these skill levels. In TE2013, I could barely win against pro 5 with an 80+ HUM player.

I can serve and volley on any surface. The speed on clay is still too fast. Rallies last often less than five strokes because the ball speed is too fast and I or the CPU consistently hit 80+ mph winning strikes (this may be true in real life). But my point is the game still plays very fast on clay to not allow for longer rallies.

Grass plays the most realistic right now.

Game is shaping up nicely. Just think you still need to tweak the competitiveness. I want to play as close to real tennis as possible. I don't think my 50% skill should compete against a 80% skill at Master 10.

i was talking particularly about online play. Idk average rally length assume 4. Problem for me is defending the strikes. I know in reality players hitting even little bit faster than in the game but they usually defending well.

Probably about court speeds(physics) maybe. Liked your last courts are better than in the mod. In your clay courts Ball bounces higher or defending is easier for me.

sorry for the delay to answer, I've got difficulty days lately (see the mini-blog for more details :fear: )

knich,
I meant if you & the CPU player have 40% in your skills, you'll likely be able to volley in an almost similar manner on all surfaces.

You may want to try to play with the Elite controls.

And once I work on the gameplay, I'll check if the CPU strength at Master-10 is at a correct level... :fear:

NNUE,
if the Mod changed the court physics, then it'll modify the defense vs attack balance. I'm not sure they did though.

When you start to learn the game, it's easier to attack than to defend ; but in the few high-level matches (ie: Jijo vs Mistery), the balance seemed to be ok enough.

Anyway, I'll probably work more on that balance at some point.

Yeah...once you start playing you will realize that the balance needs tweaking. :)
