Sliding feedback

Postby Snake Doctor » 31 Jan 2022, 09:49

Just tried the latest patch and I love the sliding. Haven't tried it on clay yet, to see if there's much difference between the courts, but so far looking great Manu. I know there're no sounds of squeaking shoes as the player slides on hard courts yet, but I'm sure that's not the priority right now and it'll come when it's ready.

My only suggestion for the sliding is when sliding to the backhand side, the player should reach the ball, slice it back in play, and turn the opposite way. I'll link a video if you need it Manu, but it's a move done by a lot by Rafa and Novak.

Hello,

I had totally forgotten about adding a skidding sound for the sliding. I just did for the next update, but using the existing sounds that are a bit too short for the use ; the sliding might deserve its own longer sound. I'll wait to see if other people notice that... :blackeye:

For the turn-around on the slice, I know about it, but it's much harder to do animation-wise, and it doesn't work in all situations : if the sliding is forward, there's no such a turning, so it'd need several animations depending on the situation, and even there, it may have some cases where it might be hard to predict which animation should be selected. :fear:

Hi! I was able to test the latest update just recently so here's a little feedback.

First, I did notice the sound! Would be nice to have but I don't think it's a priority atm.
Sliding is awesome, it adds an extra depth to the game! I did notice some weird head movements from the players sometimes, like their head is fixed looking forward and the rest of the body is pointing to another direction, Maybe turning it around a bit would be enough?
Other than that, looks perfect! I do agree with the first comment, would be nice to have that 'turn to the other side' effect, but seems expensive to do right now, Maybe for the future?

One suggestion that I would really like to be implemented is to have forward, backward and diagonal sliding! I noticed that the slide is only lateral (Which is perfect and the most common form of sliding) but would be nice to have that feature for reaching drop shots (forward), lobs (backward) and any situation that could use a diagonal sliding.
I know it's a lot to ask, but it would be a game changer imo.

Thanks and keep it up!

Noticed that the player does slides slightly forward if a drop shot goes to the backhand (At least with Djokovic) but I haven't seen it on the drive side

Fed1,
the player can turn a bit during the sliding : for a full forward sliding, he's turning 45° instead of 90° (ie: the angle is halved) ; it works the same on both sides. I did it like this because else it would require separate animations as the hitting zone would be moved forward, which the engine can't handle if it uses the same animation (and even with another anim, it'd need extra work :fear: ).

EDIT: only the legs are turned, not the chest (coz for the animation the engine expects the ball to be hit on left/right, not forward)
