Sliding animation & Volleys

Postby Andynator7 » 28 Jan 2022, 22:21

Hi Manu,

Great work with all the recent updates! The sliding animations especially look fantastic, and you can tell you put a ton of work into them.

I had one suggestion regarding the sliding animation for the lob. Right now (on the backhand side at least) sliding into the lob uses the sliding slice animation, but this looks odd as the stroke is a downward slice and the ball has a very high trajectory. Have you considered using the normal strike sliding animation for lobs instead?

I was also wondering if you had any plans to change the volley animations, or if you had considered adding drop shot animations that are different than slices. Or, since volley animations are moddable, will drop shots animations be moddable too?

Thanks for all your work!

Hello,

1) yes, the sliding slice isn't ideal visually to do that lob, but it's the one with the bigger reach, so gameplay-wise it makes sense to use it, especially for 2H-handed players : if they do a lob on a slide, they'll usually do it with only 1 hand.

2) I'd like to improve the volley animations, at least to provide more adapted animations for the high volleys.

3) I have no plan to add a drop shot animation, although I could do it at some point as it shouldn't be too complicated.

Thanks for your reply Manu.

For the drop shots, my thinking was that for some slice animations (like Federer's with a short follow-through) the drop shot looks fine. Some of the slice animations however have long takebacks and follow-throughs, which looks odd for a drop shot which is usually a very short, light stroke and can look quite different.
