I'm using an XBox 360 controller and have yet to serve an ace in this game. I've been on the other side of plenty of them. My player's serve speed is usually as fast as my opponent's. What button or combination buttons of does it take to have a successful ace? It's quite frustrating in an otherwise great & fun game.

Surely using more kick/slice and accuracy should be applied when serving. Variety does work well in tennis elbow because the AI doesn't always see it coming

aim for the lines and serve with B1+B2.
Sometimes an external sliced serve with B1 can work well (especially on grass).

Thanks for the replies but something doesn't seem right with aiming during serves for the human player from what I see.

For instance if I am serving from the right side of the Center Mark and aiming with the left joystick, it's not possible for me to serve the ball anywhere near Center Service Line. Even if I tried to fault on the opposite side of the center service line moving the joystick all the way to the right, it won't land anywhere near there. The ball will only land inside the left service box, or outside the singles sideline or the far side of the service line for a fault.

Yet the AI player can often serve close to and often touch the center service line or on the wrong side of it for a fault.

Is this by design?

I'm using Arcade controls. I tried Elite controls briefly but it made no difference. What am I missing here?

hum, it sounds like you're not aiming correctly. You have to press the button and keep it pressing, and then press left or right : the longer you press, the more the serve will go to the left or the right, like when playing rallies. You shouldn't release left or right before you hit the ball.

Yes, that's been part of the problem. I have improved my aiming and have been getting in some aces but I see another issue:
I played several games in a row where I was getting in at least a 5-6 aces per match but last few matches there have been nothing. Quite a few of my serves looked like they should have been Aces but were ruled out. I replayed one of these calls and it landed on the sideline in play so it was a bad call. The replay/camera system in TE4 is difficult to grab a proper screen shot of where the ball is right on the line but it was definitely an ace. Looking back, I think there were quite a few other serves in the past few games that were ruled a fault but should have been aces though I didn't bother using the replay system.

Since there is no Hawkeye system, are the Line Judges just cosmetic in TE4 where ALL calls are correct? It seems the AI player(s) are getting all of their aces called. Might this be a bug?

I looked at your post on how to submit bugs. I just set Recording to Real Time. I switched to Ball camera. It would be easier to send a screenshot but is it possible to use the Replay system playing it back in one frame only? What am I missing? It's very difficult get a screenshot of when the ball lands exactly on the line.

I emailed a bug report with what I hope are required files along with a screenshot. I just got screwed out of what should been another Ace but was ruled a "fault".

This is definitely a bug from what I see.

John Hackenroe sent me a screenshot by email showing clearly the issue and will hopefully send me a Bug Report the next time it'll happen to him so I could reproduce the bug on my PC and then fix it...

This is a weird one.

I decided to do a clean uninstall/reinstall of TE4 using Revo Uninstaller because of the invalid saves issue : topic5-33407.php.

Since reinstalling TE4, Aces are back to being called correctly for me ATM. I will send a report & keep you updated if anything changes.
