Well many of us were discussing about those annoying slice dropshots near the nets. But probably we dint post because the number of people using it decreased. But some players started doing it again so eventually someone would have complained.

And ofcourse it is totally unreal and they are practically unplayable.Glad that its tuned now :)

Comments about Build 31

Postby Leena » 30 Mar 2009, 20:10

Women's topspin, it's better, but I still think it could go lower. Another thing that could help is having the CPU not always hit topspin shots so close to the baseline. I play Pro-10 to Master-10, so I assume the CPU is usually (if not always) hitting in the "green" area when striking the ball unless you can hit a great acceleration to get them on the run (and you can't hit that acceleration when you're buried so far behind the baseline). I think it plays acceptably fair enough now, but it still looks and plays so unrealistic with how loopy it is.

Hi Manu,

The new build #31 seems to be loading fine so far, however, I'm still having the same fps lag problem like before...

Would the "autolag" problem that you mentioned have anything to do with MY situation?
If not, what DOES if affect?
I'm not sure if I even noticed it...

I saw that the "LOD" level changed from "0" to "2" in the [Game] parameter in the new .ini...
What is "LOD" and what does it do?

could you make it where in doubles the super tiebreaks are played for the third set in all events except grandslam?
That's what it is like in real life.

btaylor, Autolag is for online mode. LOD is to display line judges & chair umpire ( => changed with F9 key in the game).

jenks10s, u can easily set it in the "Data\TourCategory.*.ini" files...

- Online : new Autolag was 2 times too big... (**)

Online has been laggier for me in this build. I played someone where we had less than 50 ping, and it never stopped lagging for some reason, in 2 separate matches.

Also, is it just me, or was the serve weakened? I'm having a much easier time returning. The accelerated slice serve seems much slower and less consistent to hit. I like.

Also, the new drop shot is so loopy to the point where it's useless. I have 100% to drop shot, and they usually sit so high in the air that it's very easy for the opponent to hit a winner from.

I also find the drop shot too loopy. It hangs in the air for too long. When doing a drop shot off a volley, it is ok, but when doing it after a groundstroke, sometimes it is too loopy, and sometimes it is ok. It seems more loopy off of the forehand side.

Hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't say this. I'm not the most experienced tennis player, but isn't it possible in real tennis that one might perfect a shot like the drop shot that starts as a slice but just hits the top of the net and is converted into a drop shot? In other words, if you had in real tennis the limited (though great for TE2009) variables presented with in TE2009, isn't it realistic that one could get this slice/drop shot somewhat consistently if one knew exactly how to prepare for it, hit it, etc.?

It was a really nice shot, I liked it, and I will miss it if it is really gone (I haven't downloaded that updated yet). Also, I really like having the effect of the net or tape or whatever. TE2006 and TE2009 are the only tennis games that I have played that added this variable (or at least added it with any realism). I played someone this weekend (real tennis), and I think that I hit a shot that hit the tape and dropped over, so that was nice (oh and I think that I won the point). So, maybe this was just fine the way that it was? If you were to choose between the way this was before the update and the way the drop shot is now (or whatever), which would you choose? I haven't even tried the new version, and I think that I vote for the old way.

some things i think about the drop shot on latest build:
-I set it to 100 just to try it, and i think is too fast and high, it flies sky-high(for a dropshot) and fast, the curve on it is ok anyway(well i started to see the "show strike speed" and it's slower but it looks like it's faster)
-then i set it to 0 and it was more like a normal drop shot for me, a little more slow but flatter like it should but it lost most of its nice curve
that was for groundstrokes: i thought 100 skill dropshot was faster than 0 skill dropshot because it has to move a lot more by the altitude it had
on volley dropshot:
with 100: it's perfect
with 0: it's perfect, a lot worse than with 100
so, i think dropshot should be tweak down by its altitude, no by its speed, let the 0 skill on dropshot like it is cuz you can still have some decent shot with it, but if you have 100 on dropshot it should be flatter, keeping that nice curve it has now anyway
am i asking to get back the drop shot to how it was?(i didn't meant to but... )

You couldn't hit the net on a regular basis, but it does happen.

However, IRL, the effect of hitting the net is minimal as it takes spin off the ball. And there isn't much pace to take off the ball, so sometimes it's even easier for the opponent to get to depending on the ricochet. In TE, the ball just loses speed and dies.

I have seen some players return this slice/drop shot during online matches with me, and the CPU players does it often enough to see that it is not impossible to return it. (I liked it). Anyway, hmm, well I certainly was one to complain about the drop shot before. Am I now defending it the way that it was? I'll have to download the update and try the new one.

I've had 4 matches with desyncs every point with this build, and they've all had good connections. What could be causing this?

I just tried the updated version for a few minutes. I don't really like it so far more than the previous release. The game (or at least the ball) seems slower, and the drop shot I think clears the net too much in that it does this every time; there should be some way to have a drop shot attempt that isn't as high over the net.

To me, this is not as realistic as before. I don't think that the possibility of hitting the slice/drop shot should be eliminated, just as in real tennis there is always a possibility of a shot like this being hit. I've played real matches sometimes in which there were three or four points where the net cord was involved, and I think that I probably lost most of those points; my opponent was just lucky that day. With the previous release, I could not hit this slice/drop shot every time that I tried; so, I think that it was fine before as there was risk in trying to hit it, but the shot was at least possible. Also, there have been many times during online matches where my opponent and I would be in a rally and my opponent would be to the side of the court and return the ball from a low position and an extreme angle and would catch the net cord. I don't think that they were attempting to do this, and in real tennis, I think that the same thing could have happened. To me, that is the way that it should be. Trying to make the drop shot higher over the net in an attempt to avoid the possibility of this shot, to me, is artificial and not right.

I've tried 40%-50% on drop shot for some matches, and it's more effective. I do like how sometimes it's low, sometimes hit high... that's how it is in real life. It's just that playing on 100% doesn't work well.

Also, sorry if I'm getting annoying with the thoughts, but may I suggest lowering the amount of games/points played where people don't receive an ELO penalty for quitting. It's been really bad today, EIGHT people quitting at 0-2, or as soon as it appears they'll get down a break. The only matches I've finished the last day and a half are against good players that always kick my butt.

Manu, it's almost impossible to hit a winner of one hand backhand! I don't like it, most of my accelerations of backhand, especially cross court are faults :?
